Eva’s marriage was one aspect of her life that she considered the most important. She was married to the director, producer, and writer for television, film, and theatre, Jeffrey Hayden. He was known for productions such as; Omnibus, The Andy Griffith Show, Leave it to Beaver, Santa Barbara, Route 66, and Sunset Baby. His career in the industry saw him win the the Governor’s Media Award for “The Loretta Young Show,” the NAACP Award for “Palmertown” and a variety of awards for “Children in America’s Schools,” a PBS documentary.
Eva and Jeffrey pair first crossed paths on the subway in New York City sometime in 1949 and soon became friends. Hayden confessed that it was her beauty and demeanor that made him stretch his hands of friendship and also asked for a coffee date which she reluctantly agreed.
Their friendship soon blossomed into a relationship that saw them get married two years later precisely October 28, 1951. Despite being in the entertainment industry, their marriage passed the test of time and was free of controversies that often cloud the industry. The couple remained committed to their vows for over 6 decades and Eva once hinted that her marriage and family always come first.
These years saw them build their careers and also raise their two children. Sadly, Jeffrey passed away in 2016 after battling cancer for a year. The New York-born was 90 years old at the time he died and was surrounded by his wife, children, and many family members.

- Darrell Hayden
The first child of the couple Darrell Hayden, (69), was born on April 1, 1955, two years after she won the Supporting Actress Oscar for her role in On The Waterfront (1954). The actress recalled how her husband had cautioned her not to stand up too quickly if she was called for the award. And when she was eventually called, she made her way to receive the award and even noted that she may just have her baby right there.
Thankfully, Darrell came 2 days later and has since grown into an independent man. Unlike his parents, he pursued a career away from the entertainment industry and worked at Francisco University as a design instructor.
- Laurette Hayden
Laurette is the second child of Eva and Jeffrey. She was born on July 19 1958 and is 66 years old right now. She had a brief career in the entertainment industry as a film producer before pursuing a career as a marriage and family therapist.
