Billy Cobb is an American Youtuber, singer, and songwriter well known for putting out cover songs and even his original songs.
As of February 2020, his Extended Playlist ‘Zerwee’ was his most streamed and the project was to be reminiscent of old Weezer songs.
Billy Cobb created his Youtube channel on the 1st of January, 2013. His oldest public video was a cover song of Gerard Way, a singer with ‘My Chemical Romance’ and the title of the song is “Don’t Try”. However, by the 1st of August, 2015, he released his first original song; ‘Jollification’.
By May 5th, 2016, Billy Cobb released his debut studio album titled ‘Abstract’.

While talking about Zerwee, the EP, Cobb said he waited for a while for Weezer to drop another good album and as it seemed not to be forthcoming, he got tired of waiting and made one, himself. He initially only released the EP on his Youtube channel, however, by the end of 2019, the EP had received a physical CD release in Japan under the Kerosene Records Label. A remastered edition was also released on CD, cassette, and vinyl in 2021 by Needlejuice Records.

Billy Cobb’s Zerwee EP caused quite a stir as a couple of Weezer fans thought and felt it unnecessary and mimicry. Others, however, felt it was a great sound as he didn’t murder the sound and he depicted, perfectly, all that the Weezer band was all about. Some say it is better than modern Weezer themselves, even. Whatever the situation, it was simply explained as ‘an exciting case of audience and artist interaction’.
In an interview with Midline, Billy explained that although he wanted the songs to be a copy of the Weezer sounds, he did also want it to sound like him. He wanted his own touch and feel to the songs and so he gave the songs a bit of his own style and edge, therefore, giving the lyrics a Weezer-y feel with a Billy Cobb touch making the songs kind of personal and also passing it off as a tribute to Weezer.
Billy Cobbs stated that he has no plans of creating another sound like Zerwee. He said the EP is Its own thing and that he is looking at creating different sounds and trying out other stuff.
It is no news that this Youtube sensation is carving quite an amazing niche for himself with his parodies, covers of other songs, and even his original pieces. He is definitely a name to look out for and a personality to follow.
