Nalick Loved Music From Her Childhood
Since the time she was a child, Anna Nalick had already begun to fall in love with music. This was because, during her childhood, she had the opportunity to listen to a plethora of musicians. This helped her become familiar with many singers and their style and when she started to make music professionally, this helped in her writing process.
Our investigation has shown that this exposure to a wide range of musicians was made possible by her grandparents who had both worked on Broadway; her parents’ interest in music was also a contributing factor.
As Nalick grew older, she started to write and record songs. When the time came around for her to attend college she had made up her mind to get a university degree before pursuing a career in music. But an event happened that affected her plans.
Anna Nalick met a professor who taught photography, and one of his students was the child of people who were involved in the music business. This professor asked Nalick to provide a sample of her music, which she did by giving him a lo-fi demo with six of her songs on it. The demo she gave him was enough to get her signed to Colombia records, which is affiliated with the much bigger studio Sony. When the end of 2003 came around she had to put her dreams of college on hold.
Anna Nalick’s Exploits As A Singer
By 2004, she had released her debut album Wreck of the Day and its lead single was Breathe, the song she is mostly known for. The song can be rightfully described as one of the very popular songs of the year 2005. The other single off the album was not as successful but it also fared well on the Billboard Charts. Breathe was featured on the soundtracks of some television shows, most notably Grey’s Anatomy and One Tree Hill.
The next time she released a new body of work was in 2008 and it was the release of her Shine EP. As the year went by there were reports of her releasing another album but she had an issue with the record label she was signed with and subsequently had to terminate her contract with them.
Nalick had described the final years with the record label as a harrowing for her. Giving in to the demands of the label meant that she had to give up aspects of herself and to sacrifice aspects of her artistry and it was not something she was willing to do.
Upon leaving Sony, Anna Nalick established herself as an independent musician; this meant that she was not working under any label and any music she was going to release would not be under the banner of any production house. She made this announcement in 2011 on Facebook, more than five years after her first album and three years after she had left Sony.
That same year she released her second album, Broken Doll & Odds & Ends. It was also the same year where Anna Nalick went back to fulfill the dream she had when started music professionally, she went back to college. For her degree, she enrolled at UCLA where she took classes in Creative Writing and Acting.
