You most likely have not heard the name Winta Mcgrath except if you have watched the 2020 HBO science fiction drama, Raised by Wolves. The Australian actor played Campion, a human boy raised by android parents Abubakar Salim and Amanda, and has since captured the hearts of many and also gained mainstream recognition. Other notable works he is known for include; Boy’s in the Trees (2016), Risen (2020), and Doctor Doctor (2016-2020).

The Australian actor was born Winta Mcgrath on August 9, 2005, and he’s 19 years old at the moment. From what we gathered, he was raised in Melbourne, Australia until the age of 4 when the family moved to Birmingham, UK.
Winta’s parents Craig McGrath and Heidi McGrath are both scientists. His father is an anesthesiologist while his mother is a neuroscientist and post-doctoral fellow at the Birmingham University UK. It is in pursuit of their careers that the family moved in 2009 and have remained in the UK since then. Aside from their careers, the pair also have a thing for writing and have written a 118-page comedy story titled, Science Bunnies.
His Older Siblings are Also Actors
Winta is not the only child of his parents. He was raised alongside 2 siblings, Gulliver McGrath and Zen McGrath who are also active in the entertainment industry.
Gulliver is the eldest of the three and was the first to get started in acting. At around the age of 5, he was running commercials and later got his first role. He started off with minor roles in short films and TV series before his breakthrough role in the Steven Spielberg movie Lincoln (2012). Aside from this, he has also starred in other films such as Hugo, Lincoln, and Dark Shadows.
Winta’s immediate elder brother, Zen debuted in the same movie as his younger brother in 2014 when he was 11 years old. He played Ivan in Aloft and has since earned roles in films and TV series such as The Son, Utopia, Risen, and Red Dog: True Blue. At a point, he almost gave up acting to focus on school and earning a science degree. However, when the role of Nicholas in the drama film, The Son came by, he auditioned for the role and soon started casting. This production also got his science degree deferred.
Following this, he revealed that he would pursue acting in the meantime and also look out for better opportunities.

Winta Mcgrath made his Professional Debut in 2014
Winta’s passion for acting was ignited as a child and was greatly supported by his siblings and parents who got him a professional representation. In 2014, he finally earned the opportunity to play the role of Gully in the drama film Aloft.
Two years later, he appeared in Boys in the Trees and True Blue. Since then, he has remained active in the entertainment industry and has also taken part in TV series such as Doctor Doctor and Raised by Wolves.

Winta has starred in a number of films and TV series since his debuts however, he is well known for his role as Campion in the science fiction drama series Raised by Wolves. He joined the cast when he was 13 years old. The series was created by Aaron Guzikowski and two of the episodes were directed by Rodley Scott who is also the executive producer of the show.
The series explores the story of two androids who are tasked with raising human children on a mysterious planet after the earth was destroyed by a great war. In the show, Campion, a 12-year-old scrappy and soulful character questions if his android parents really know what’s best for him after knowing about Earth and other humans. He also came to view his android parents as weapons and not protection. Following this, he helped other human children escape the androids to a place of safety but sadly, he realized that the androids meant no harm and resolved to love their kind.
According to reviews, Winta’s character is one of the most relevant in the sci-fi show and it’s no surprise that this became his breakthrough role. His career has seen him share the screen with a number of established actors including Jennifer Connelly, Cillian Murphy, Travis Fimmel, Amanda Collins, and Abubakar Salim.
