1. She is a Chilean
Miss Dinky was born Alejandra Iglesias in Chile and was surrounded by a group of very talented musicians in Santiago De Chile where she grew up. As such, she was exposed to the likes of Riccardo Villalobos and Dandy Jack also known as Martin Schopf.
Given this, it is no surprise that she developed an interest in music and eventually went on to pursue her passion for it.
2. She Has Always Been in Love with Dance
Alejandra who has a peculiar view on dance culture decided to further broaden her knowledge of the art. She chose to study dance and piano as her educational pursuits in Chile. By the time she moved to New York in 1996, she, once again, enrolled at the Martha Graham School of Dance in 1997.
Her relocation to New York was a deliberate attempt at studying the club life in the state as she was awed by it. This also informed her decision to study dance. At the end of her degree at the Martha Graham School of Dance, Dinky began to chase what soon became her life.
3. Beginning of Music for Miss Dinky
As already stated, she was surrounded by musicians who were super talented. In view of this, she became exceptionally interested in music and soon started to produce music. At this point in her life, she was already a huge fan of techno sounds.
Studying piano in school also gave an edge to her music production. However, her major epiphany came when she visited Berlin in 1995 and she met DJ Hell, Robert Gorl, and Stacy Pullen.
These people exposed Miss Dinky to one of New York’s major gay clubs. The club is named Flamingo East and Iglesias soon became a regular face there. By the time she moved to New York for her study, she subsequently began to work.
4. Iglesias’ Work as a DJ
She began her DJ work in Santiago way before she made her move to the United States of America. Here, she attracted the likes of Atom Heart and Markus Nicolai who used to frequently visit Chile during the summer breaks.
Upon her visit and fascination with Berlin, the young lady figured she could do better music outside Chile. She bought her ever first vinyl records in Santiago and this was the beginning of her career as a DJ.
However, while being exposed to life in New York, Miss Dinky began to produce music in addition to her work as a DJ there. This was however after her study of dance.
As a DJ, Miss Dinky worked with the likes of Khan, John Selway, DJ Silver, and Adam X.
5. Miss Dinky is the Head of ‘Angels on Vinyl’
The Chilean stumbled upon a collective of DJs in New York. Upon this revelation, she met with three other female DJs, and together they formed ‘Angels on Vinyl’. This group soon began to break into different scenes in New York.
6. Miss Dinky Has Been on Tours with Notable Names
As a DJ, Dinky’s debut CD included works from her dance tracks as well as previously recorded but never released works. It also included some of the sounds she picked up while on her Latin American tour.
Miss Dinky has been on tour with Derrick May and Aril Brinkha during the Transmat tour. She also played in places such as Limelight, Tunnel, The Cooler, and Soundfactory.
