Life and death of the singer
Valentin Elizalde was said to be one of the most popular Banda singers at the beginning of 2000. Most of their songs and artistic career were a bit controversial.
On November 25, 2006, the singer was gunned down shortly after leaving a concert in Reynosa, Tamaulipas. He was killed along with his driver and his assistant. There are speculations that Elizalde was killed because of his concert performance of the corridor A Mis Enemigos which had lyrics believed to antagonize drug trafficking gang Los Zetas. This theory according to El Universal is the strongest since it indicates that one of the songs by the deceased singer caused his death.
Other sources reported that the Mexican singer was killed because he was involved with the wife of a capo and her husband ordered his murder when he was leaving the palenque in Tamaulipas.
Elizade was allegedly murdered by one Raul Hernandez Barron, a member of Los Zetas. Barron was arrested on 22 March 2008 in Coatzintla, Veracruz.
