1. She is of Japanese Descent
Takayo was born in 1932 as the youngest of 4 siblings and she is currently 92 years old. Her parents, Chukuro and Kinko Tsubouchi are Japanese immigrants who were forcibly removed from the West Coast due to the signing of Executive Order 9066 during World War II. Also, Takayo and her family stayed in the Fresno Assembly Center before they moved to Jerome (a Japanese-American internment Camp). After spending some time at Jerome, the Tsubouchi family was again moved to the Rohwer incarceration camps.
Years later, they were released from their incarceration camp and they decided to head to Chicago, Illinois.
2. Takayo Fischer Started Performing as a Young Adult
After settling in Chicago, Fischer enrolled in Hyde Park High School and graduated in the year 1950. After completing high school, she attended Rollins College from 1951 to 1953. While in college, she became a cheerleader and a member of a performing arts fraternity called Phi Beta. She performed in several theatrical works and also won the crown of Miss Nisei Queen.

3. She Began Her Career with Stage Productions Before Switching to TV
Fischer is currently renowned for her work on several movies and TV series. However, she began her showbiz with stage stage productions. In 1958, she was featured in the theatrical work titled The World of Suzie and this became a springboard for her entertainment career.
After years of performing as an amateur, Fischer went pro in 1979. She is now mostly praised for her portrayal of Mistress Ching in The Pursuit of Happiness (2006) and Mrs. Chu in Memoirs of a Geisha (2005). Fischer’s first husband was Dean Doran. They married while she was in her second year in college. Their marriage produced 3 children namely Toya (born 1954), John (born 1956), and Juliet (born 1957). However, years after their marriage, the couple decided to end their relationship.
Fischer later got married for the second time to Sy Fischer on November 29, 1980. Their union is blessed with 2 kids namely Stewart and Peter. The American actress is also a proud grandmother and she has expressed her desire for her grandkids to know their Japanese heritage.
