Sinead O’Connor’s children are four in number and knowing her numerous affairs and several marriages, it is no surprise that she had all four-Jake, Roisin, Shane, and Yeshua- with four different men. In her 2021 memoir, Rememberings, she indicated that having four children with four different men was something that just happened.
The Irish singer and activist suffered many challenges in life including the loss of her son, Shane in 2022, yet, she remained a proud mother. After news of her death made the waves on July 26, 2023, her legacy will live on through the gift of her music which produced more than 10 albums and successful songs like Nothing Compares 2 U. While Sinead’s death at the age of 56 is shocking, she is survived by three children.
Let’s Meet Sinead O’Connor’s Children
Jake Reynolds
He is the oldest child of the Nothing Compares 2 U crooner. He was born in 1987 during Sinead’s relationship with music producer, John Reynolds. While his mother had enjoyed a career that wowed music lovers worldwide, Jake is into the food business.
Away from this, he welcomed a son with his then-girlfriend, Lia. The announcement was made by an overjoyed grandmother via a Facebook update. Aside from what Sinead revealed about her son’s work and children, he chooses to concentrate on his career while staying away from the public view.
Roisin Waters
Sinead welcomed her second child, a daughter named Brigidine Roisin Waters on March 10, 1996, with John Waters, a journalist. Unlike her oldest, Roisin’s early life became the center of media attention due to a drawn-out court battle over her custody. Apparently, Sinead attempted suicide in 1999 due to bipolar disorder at the time, by implication, this affected her ability to take care of her young daughter. Thusly, it became an issue in the legal tussle. The singer eventually granted the custody of Rosin to Waters who trained her in Dublin.
Focusing on 28-year-old Rosin’s career, she is a pastry chef. Aside from this, she is also a skilled singer as can be seen in a 2014 duet with her mother on Icelandic TV. While many have watched out to see more of Roisin’s musical work, this has not been the case.
Though some celebrity children are known to take after their famous parents, Sinead expressed her relief that Rosin chose to be a chef. Her reason was that she did not want her daughter to go through the same treatment she received in the music business.
Shane Lunny
He was born Nevi’im Nesta Ali Shane O’Connor to the Mandinka singer and Donal Lunny who is a musician and producer from Ireland. Shane was born sometime in 2004 during his parent’s short-lived affair.
He was declared a genius at the age of 8. During the assessment, he showed great reading, mathematical and vocabulary skills of someone more mature and this led to the conclusion that he had the reasoning of a 16-year-old.
Often described as her lookalike son, Sinead shared a close relationship with Shane. After she lost custody of Shane in 2013, it affected both deeply. On Sinead’s part, she revealed that since she lost custody of her son, she had been suicidal, and is only alive because of her doctor and psychiatrist.
Apparently, Shane also started struggling with mental health issues which some sources relate to the separation from his mother. In the years following this, Shane’s condition became so critical that the then 17-year-old was placed on the suicide alert at Tallaght University Hospital.
Sadly, his struggle with mental health issues came to an end in 2022 when he committed suicide by hanging. Prior, he had gone missing in 2019 and was later found. The next time he disappeared, all attempts to find him failed till he was found dead days. After his death, Sinead pleaded to be hospitalized because she indicated she wanted to unalive herself.
Yeshua Bonadio
Born Yeshua Francis Neil Bonadio, he is the youngest of Sinead’s four children. So far the 18–year-old is the only one who has indicated an interest in following in his mother’s footsteps as an entertainer. According to his mother, Yeshua is a gifted piano player who also has a good singing voice.
Aside from these skills, Yeshua is said to also be a good baker. Reportedly, he won the first prize in a baking competition in 2019.
