Here are 7 Interesting Facts You Didnt Know about the American Boxer

1. Seniesa Estrada’s Parents Divorced in 1993

Seniesa Estrada was born to her parents Joe Estrada and Maryann Chavez on June 26, 1992, and she’s 32 years old at the moment. From the records, she was raised in East Los Angeles California, U.S. alongside her brothers. While not so much has been established about early life, we garnered that her parents got divorced in 1993 when she was only a year old. What led to their separation has not been disclosed.

Nonetheless, the pair were still active in her life and played their role as parents. She was mainly raised by her mother but got to see her father every weekend.

2. She Comes From an Athletic Family

Even though not so much is known about Seniesa’s family background, it’s no longer news that her father was also a boxer. Although he didn’t pursue a professional career, he boxed in the gym, on the streets, and later in prison.

Growing up, the six-year-old would watch televised matches alongside her father during weekends and she soon developed a passion for the sport.

3. Seniesa’s Parents Tried to Discourage Her From Fighting

According to Seniesa, her father once told her that fighting was for boys. Despite her love for sports he tried to discourage her every time she brought the topic up. Similarly, her mother Maryann didn’t want her to do sports that would hurt her. Nonetheless, she was relentless with her request until her father finally agreed to get her enrolled at a gym when she was 8 years old. She recall how excited and happy she was despite being the only girl inside the gym. Seniesa noted that she looked forward to the next day every time.

Though she was already enrolled, her father still had doubts about the path she had chosen. Two weeks into her training, he asked her trainer to have her fight against a boy just to see how ready she was and that was the fight that got him saying – ” My little girl is a fighter”. He recalled that at the beginning of the fight, Seniesa who did not know how to fight was getting hit by her opponent. The fight became tough when she was punched in her stomach and couldn’t breathe.

However, it was at that moment she got charged and fought back until the boy left the gym crying and reportedly never came back. The passion and intensity her father witnessed made him understand that she was indeed born for this. She was later trained by Ronnie Rivota.

After several trainings and an amateur career that made her a multiple-time champion, Seniesa became a pro in 2011 and had her debut fight against Maria Ruiz which ended in a defeat via 4 round unanimous decision.

Subsequently, she went on to fight the boxers in her division including the likes of Tina Rupprecht, Tenkai Tsunami, Anabel Ortiz, Maria Micheo Santizo, and Marlen Esparza.

She earned her first world title fight in 2021 after 19 professional fights. Seniesa defeated Anabel Ortiz via 10 round unanimous decision to become the strawweight champion of the world.

On July 24, 2020, she knocked out then-42-year-old Miranda Adkins in 7 seconds and holds the record for the fastest knockout in women’s boxing history. Two years later, Seniesa signed a multi-year promotional contract with Top Rank.

5. The Los Angeles Born Almost Quit Boxing

When Seniesa became a pro, she argued that the fights were not often. In the first four years of her career, she was only opportune to fight 4 times as big promoters weren’t signing women at that time. She also hinted that women’s boxing was dead and compared it with her amateur years when she even had to travel for different tournaments.

At the time, she felt she was only wasting her time keeping fit without getting any fights. In fact, she also thought of quitting rather than wasting her time and talents on something that would never be seen by the world. However, her father kept encouraging her to keep pushing and not give up.

Eventually, women’s boxing became an Olympic event and increased its exposure to several women. It also opened up more opportunities to fight. Estrada signed a contract with Oscar De La Hoya’s promotion company Golden Boy Promotions in 2018 and by 2020 she still had an unbeaten record even after 18 fights.

6. She Has Inspired a lot of Young Girls

The two-weight class world champion has caused a change for many girls who grew up in similar backgrounds to hers. She revealed that a lot of young girls have been inspired to start boxing and even cry when they meet her. She added some local gyms are beginning to have more girls than boys which was very rare in her own time.

Interestingly she has captured the hearts of many young girls who show up at her fight to cheer her up with capes on. Seniesa’s father said he is happy to see these young girls look up to her even though she didn’t have any.

7. Is Seniesa Estrada in a Relationship

Estrada has been very discreet about her lovelife and it’s difficult to establish her relationship status. It’s not known if she is single or has someone in her life. Nonetheless, it’s possible that she has someone in her life and is building a relationship away from the spotlight. While this has not been confirmed, it is perhaps best to say her relationship status is not known.
