Patricia McCallum is a former artist and photographer who is probably best known as the wife of the English actor, Micheal York. The pair got married in 1968 and have remained committed to their vows since then. While they do not share any children together, Pat’s short-lived marriage in the 50s birthed Rick McCallum.
While you’ll soon meet Patricia, her husband Micheal doesnt need so much introduction as his career as a stage, television, and film actor has spanned several decades. You may recognize him from films and television series like Romeo and Juliet, (1968), Something for Everyone (1970), Zeppelin (1971), Cabaret (1972), and The Three Musketeers (1973).
Michael York’s Wife, Patricia McCallum Was Born in Jamaica
Patricia McCallum’ like her husband has long embraced living away from the spotlight. Despite having a renowned career in photography, information about her early life and family background has not been captured. What is known however is that she was born in Jamaica and raised by her parents who were both English diplomats.
As for her education, Patricia attended a French convent school in England and later enrolled at a school in Germany.
She worked as a Photographer for Many Years
Even though Patricia isn’t as popular as her husband, she holds her end as a photographer. She previously worked as an artist for several years and has a lot of paintings to her name. With her switch to photography, she covered a lot of celebrities while working for Vogue and Glamour including Andy Warhol, the Kennedys, and John Travolta. Interestingly, it was her career that made her crossed paths with her husband, Micheal.
Aside from taking celebrity photos, Patricia also took photos of ordinary people and later focused on photographing human cadavers. It was the latter that heightened her career as she explained in her 2004 book “Pat York: Covered-Uncovered”.
Patricia McCallum and Michael York Were Engaged to Other People When They Met
For the artist turned photographer and the actor, it was love at first sight. As hinted, Patricia crossed paths with Micheal while working for Vogue and Glamour. According to her, her magazine editor had sent her to photograph the playwright and Screenwriter, Tom Stoppard and the new actor, Micheal York. During the session, they managed to click at the same instant.
At the time, Patricia was engaged to the S.I Newhouse, a billionaire magazine publisher while Micheal was engaged to an unidentified woman. Nonetheless the pair maintained a great friendship but later broke off their engagement and began a relationship that saw Micheal propose in 1967 at the Juhu Beach in Mumbai on Valentine’s Day.
The pair got married the following year precisely March 27, 1968 on Micheal’s 26th birthday and have remained true to their vows for over half a century.
Before Micheal came into her life, Patricia was previously married to the US military pilot, Roy Alwood and they had birthed a son named Richard M. McCallum in the short-lived marriage.

Patricia McCallum has Been Very Supportive of Her Husband throughout his Health Battles
In the early 2000s, Micheal was diagnosed with multiple myeloma and his wife has been by his side through every therapy. She recalled how they would later find out that his diagnosis was wrong after 10 years and that he had a rare disease called amyloidosis caused by insoluble protein buildup in vital organs of the body.
Following this new diagnosis by Dr. Robert Kyle of the Mayo Clinic in New York, the pair would often travel every 5 months for check-ups and treatment. She noted that in a year, they would only spend two months at home and it soon became a burden. Nonetheless, they managed to keep up until two years after his second stem cell transplant in 2018.
Micheal and Patricia moved to a charterhouse in Rochester, Minnesota to be close to the Mayo Clinic for treatment and had to sell off their $7M house in Hollywood Hills, as well as their extensive art collection. Recalling this moment in an interview, Micheal noted that he doesnt miss anything about his luxurious living. He added that it has been nothing but gain to him and revealed his love for adventures and exploring new places.
Do They Couple Have Children?
As earlier mentioned, Patricia’s marriage to Micheal has not birthed any child. While their careers may have likely contributed to this, the couple have never spoken about this.
Nonetheless, as noted, Patricia has a son from a previous marriage. Rick McCallum was born on August 22, 1954, in Heidelberg, West Germany. Like his stepfather, the 70 year-old also pursues a career in the entertainment industry as a film producer famed for his work on Hatchet, J, Edgar, The Young Indiana Jones Chronicles, and Star Wars Special Editions.
Rick also maintains a low profile and not so much is known about him. However, we gathered that he’s married to a woman from Prague and together they have a daughter named Olivia ‘Mousy’ McCallum who also works in the film industry.
