Michelle Obama, the former First Lady of the United States of America, is set to miss Donald Trump’s inauguration.
The former First Lady’s office said, on Tuesday, that Michelle Obama will, indeed, not attend Donald Trump’s inauguration next week. However, the statement dd not provide an explanation for her decision to sit out the important historical event.
A statement from the Office of Barack and Michelle Obama said: “Former President Barack Obama is confirmed to attend the 60th Inaugural Ceremonies. Former First Lady Michelle Obama will not attend the upcoming inauguration.”
Michelle Obama’s decision to skip being in attendance at Trump’s formal swearing-in marks a break from tradition, as former presidents and their wives typically take part in the ceremony. Former President George W. Bush and Laura Bush are expected to attend, according to his office, and sources have confirmed to CNN that former President Bill Clinton and Hillary Clinton will also be present.
Michelle was also absent from a memorial service last week for former President Jimmy Carter, choosing to remain in Hawaii. However, former President Barack Obama attended the service at the National Cathedral in Washington, where he sat next to Trump and engaged in lively conversation with him as the program began.
However, it was observed that other former first ladies, including Laura Bush and Hillary Clinton, both attended the Carter event.
Recall that Michelle Obama has openly expressed her hostility toward Trump, accusing him of endangering her family’s safety with his rhetoric.
In 2017, Michelle set aside her personal feelings after Trump’s first presidential victory, extending a warm welcome to him and Melania Trump at the White House for tea before his inauguration.
The Trumps themselves did not attend the inauguration of President Joe Biden in 2021 amid the president-elect’s claims that he won the 2020 election.
