Kim Sae-ron, the South Korean movie star, who was beloved by many in her native country and beyond, has sadly passed away.
Authorities confirmed on Sunday that the actress 24, was tragically found dead in her Seongsu-dong apartment.
According to reports from BBC News, a close friend of the late actress discovered her body at approximately 4:55 PM (07:55 GMT). Understandably, Kim’s friend was left deeply shaken and completely broken by the heartbreaking discovery.
Police have stated that no signs of foul play were found, and an official investigation is underway to determine the cause of death.
Kim Sae-ron Had a Promising Career That Was Cut Short
Kim Sae-ron had a very promising career that was apparently just getting started. However, that career has now been cut short. The actress first rose to fame as a child actress, quickly establishing herself as one of South Korea’s most promising talents.
Born in Seoul in 2000, Kim gained international recognition for her role in A Brand New Life (2009), a film that premiered at the Cannes Film Festival. As a child star, the role not only made her a beloved figure among movie fans in South Korea but also put her name on people’s lips abroad.
She further solidified her career with a breakout performance in The Man from Nowhere (2010), which became South Korea’s highest-grossing film that year. Kim was clearly on a roll and was making all the right waves in the industry.
Her critically acclaimed roles in The Neighbour (2012), A Girl at My Door (2014), and the fantasy drama Mirror of the Witch (2016) showcased her versatility and talent.
Controversy and Career Decline
However, despite a promising career, Kim got into some serious trouble and largely stepped away from the spotlight following a 2022 drunk driving incident. The incident was so serious that it led to a fine of 20 million won (£11,000) in April 2023.
The unfortunate incident also significantly impacted her budding career and professional opportunities, as well as the way the pubic perceived her. Soon after the drunk driving controversy, she stepped out of the spotlight and was rarely heard from, or seen in public.
Her most recent role was in the 2023 Netflix series Bloodhounds, but reports indicate that much of her screen time was edited out due to the controversy.
