Josie Totah, the popular American actress, recently stirred up the internet in a major way after dropping a video of herself and her Jessie co-star, Karan Brar online.
Totah sparked a frenzy on social media after posting the video of herself sharing a kiss with Karan Brar. In the clip, Brar is seen approaching Totah from behind, wrapping his arms around her waist, before she leans in for a kiss.
As expected, the internet quickly erupted with speculation that the two were dating, nearly 10 years after the conclusion of their Disney Channel show, Jessie.
However, after the footage went viral on social media, Totah decided to clear the air and calm the speculations. She took to TikTok to share an update about what’s happening between she and Karen Brar, finally answering the burning question fans were eager to know: Are they in a relationship or not?
Well, the answer is no! The former Jessie costars Josie Totah and Karan Brar are, in fact, NOT dating at all.
Unfortunately for fans who were hoping for a romance, it has now been confirmed that the former co-stars are not dating. Totah herself confirmed this. She re-uploaded the kissing video, stitching it together with a clip of herself laughing, and added, “It was a joke.” She repeated this clarification two more times before ending the video.
In fact, to make sure that the message she was trying to pass across is very loud and clear, the actress even captioned her video, “WE ARE TWO PLATONIC BEST FRIENDS WHO DANCED A LITTLE TOO CLOSE TO THE SUN.”

Recall that Totah publicly came out as a transgender female in 2018. Before that, in 2013, she joined the cast of Jessie, in which she portrayed Stuart Wooten, a character she played in seven episodes as a recurring role until the series concluded in 2015.
On the other hand, Brar was a series regular from the time of Jessie’s premiere in 2011 until its finale five seasons later. He played Ravi Ross and later reprised the role as a main character in the first three seasons of the spinoff Bunk’d, which aired from 2015 to 2024, before returning as a guest star.
Naturally, many fans were disappointed to learn that the romance wasn’t real. “You can’t joke like that because now I’m disappointed,” one person commented on Totah’s video. Another added, “Why would y’all do this? I was rooting for you.”
Others suggested they didn’t think the actors were joking. “Nah, the kiss looked way too real,” one person remarked, while another commented, “Friends don’t look at friends like that.”
