Errol Musk, the father of the world-famous billionaire tech entrepreneur Elon Musk, has openly criticized his son’s approach to fatherhood and parenting.
Errol Musk did not hold back on his strong opinions and even described his son, Elon as an absent parent in a candid interview he recently granted.
Speaking on the Wide Awake podcast with Joshua Rubin, Errol Musk, who was not playing it safe at all, stated:
“No, he hasn’t been a good father.”
Errol Musk on Elon’s Parenting and Family Dynamics
While being interviewed on the Wide Awake podcast with Joshua Rubin, Errol Musk claimed that his son, Elon Musk never spent enough time with his children but instead relied too much on nannies for their upbringing in their formative years.
Errol also discussed Elon Musk’s first child, Nevada Alexander Musk, who tragically passed away at just 10 weeks old due to Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (SIDS).
Errol expressed concerns about how the child was cared for. He said:
“The first child was too much with nannies and died in the care of a nanny. If Elon hears this, he’s gonna shoot me or something. But anyway, that’s what I think—that’s no good.”
For the record, Errol’s son, Elon Musk, who is the CEO of Tesla and SpaceX, has several children with different mothers. So far, he has fathered 12 children with multiple partners, including Justine Musk, musician Grimes, and Neuralink executive Shivon Zilis.
Now, Errol believes that many of these children were raised with minimal parental involvement, stating:
“They were too rich, too many nannies. Then he had five children with the same woman. Five sons, each with their own nanny. You following me?”
Concerns About Upbringing and Development
Errol Musk further spoke about what he perceives to be the consequences of this privileged upbringing, claiming that some of Elon’s children, as well as his brother Kimbal Musk’s children, struggled with basic life skills.
“The result is that the boys and Kimbal’s two sons grew up not able to cross a street. Even the street outside, my daughters would say, ‘Dad, you won’t believe it—Elon’s kids and Kimbal’s boys, they can’t cross the road. We have to hold their hands across the road when they’re like 14 years old.’”
In addition, Errol also insinuated that this detached parenting style may have contributed to personal identity challenges faced by some of his grandchildren.
He specifically referenced one of Elon Musk’s children and one of Kimbal Musk’s children being transgender, remarking:
“Elon’s got to deal with it. It’s a bit worrying.”
Elon Musk Has Made Public Appearances with His Children
In spite of these criticisms by his father, it is noteworthy that Elon Musk has been seen publicly with his children on multiple occasions. Most notably, he brought his son X Æ A-12 (X) to a press conference in the Oval Office alongside former U.S. President Donald Trump.

Apart from this, Elon was also accompanied by X, Azure, and Strider when he met Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi at the White House.
However, his former partner Grimes has openly expressed concern over X’s frequent public exposure. She commented on Musk’s social media platform, stating:
“He should not be in public like this.”
Errol Musk And Elon Have A Complicated Father-Son Relationship
It is public knowledge that the relationship between Errol Musk and his son, Elon Musk has long been a very complex one. Over the years, both men have occasionally made public statements and granted interviews to shed light on their strained relationship and conflicting perspectives.
While Elon Musk has publicly spoken in the past about his difficult upbringing and dislike for his father, Errol’s latest remarks have certainly reignited their strained relationship and have raised further questions about Elon’s parenting style.
As Elon Musk continues to shape the future of technology and space exploration, there is no doubt that his father’s most recent criticisms have added new dimensions to the ongoing public conversation about one of the world’s most influential figures.
