The actor was born on October 7, 1930, in Port of Spain, Trinidad, and Tobago. He was named Alphonso Marshall at birth.
At the early age of 6, the African-American actor showed interest in performing arts and by the time he was 16, he had dreams of enrolling at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Arts in London but that never happened. However, he joined a local acting acting group, The Whitehall Players. Barely four years later, he joined the Geoffrey Holder Dance Group in Trinidad.
Austin Stoker later got the chance to move to New York where he then landed a role n a broadway show as an instrumentalist. He worked with the group for about three years before he was drafted into the U.S Army. After he got back, he became a permanent U.S resident.
He eventually began his dramatic training at New York’s HB Studio. Stoker would later acquire a Cambridge University Senior certificate with a distinction in English. Upon moving to California, he worked in quite a number of television shows, theater productions and feature films.
Aside from his acting career, the Trinidad native was a trained movie scriptwiter. He reportedly coached so many others. He was a member of the Caribbean-American Repertory Theare, West.
During the blaxploitation era, Stoker was a notable figure. He appeared in several blaxploitation films where he often acted as a police officer or detective. Some of films include Abby (1974), Combat Cops (1974) and Sheba, Baby (1975).

Austin Stoker married his first wife Enid Mosier in 1959. The pair first met during the production of Truman Capote’s House of Flowers in 1954. Enid’s professionally name is Vivian Bonnell.
She appeared in several films and television shows including several American TV movies like Moesha (1996), Christmas in Connecticut (1992), Dragnet (1990), and Married with Children (1996).
Stoker’s first wife died on November 18, 2003 at the age of 79 from several complications from diabetes in Los Angeles.
