Donald Trump, the president-elect of the United States of America, has arrived in the Washington area.
The president-elect, on Saturday evening, stormed Washington for a celebration of his return to power ahead of an inauguration ceremony which has been disrupted by unprecedented cold temperatures.
Trump flew on an Air Force plane provided by outgoing President Joe Biden to the Republican’s base in Palm Beach, Florida, where he prepared for his transition after winning the November 5 election against Democratic Vice President Kamala Harris. The president-elect was accompanied on Saturday’s flight by his wife, Melania, his daughter, Ivanka, and her husband, Jared Kushner.
Upon arriving at Dulles Airport in suburban Virginia, Trump traveled to his golf club in Sterling, Virginia, located on the outskirts of Washington.
Leo Days, the Elvis Presley impersonator performed a serenade for the incoming president and first lady ahead of a reception for around 500 guests, accompanied by a fireworks display. An aide posted a video on social media, capturing the singer as the Trumps looked on.
Donald Trump, who is now 78 years old, is scheduled to hold a rally with supporters at the Capital One Arena in downtown Washington on Sunday, the eve of his inauguration, followed by a post-inauguration event on Monday afternoon.
Earlier, the frigid weather forecast for Monday led Trump to relocate the inauguration ceremonies from the iconic west front of the U.S. Capitol building to the Capitol Rotunda, while the parade down Pennsylvania Avenue was moved to the Capital One Arena.
Trump will be sworn in at 12 p.m. ET (1700 GMT) in the Capitol Rotunda, followed by delivering an inaugural address, a speech that traditionally sets the tone for the president’s four-year term. He told NBC News that the theme would focus on “unity and strength, as well as the word ‘fairness.’”
This will be the first time since Ronald Reagan’s second inauguration in January 1985 that the major event has been moved indoors.
