The aspiring actress, Milly Alcock,24, has made a name for herself following her epic performance as Princess Rhaenyra Targaryen in the Game of Thrones prequel series, House of the Dragon. The high school dropout made her television debut as a teenager in an episode of Wonderland (2014).
Although she was raised in a sporty family, the Sydney native chose to pursue her passion for acting. For that, she has garnered quite a few awards and nominations. Milly Alcock has risen from a dishwasher to the recipient of the Australian Academy of Cinema and Television Arts Award in 2018.
Milly Alcock Comes from a Sporty Family
Alcock Milly was born Amelia May Alcock on April 11, 2000, in Sydney. She was raised in Sydney, New South Wales alongside her two brothers, Eddy and Bertie who were both rugby players. Reports say the actress and her siblings were raised by their mother, Emma Alcock.
She initially enrolled at Sydney’s Newtown High School of the Performing Arts before she dropped out to pursue her dreams in Hollywood. Despite coming from a sporty family, Milly reported having so much passion for acting as a child. Her brother, Bertie is a sports enthusiast who played for the West Harbour Junior Rugby team.
Having made the decision to drop out of school, the House of Dragon actress revealed school has never been for her especially because she believes she would never thrive in the school environment. She also added that she’s not bothered about the stigmatization of people who drop out of high school although it can be infuriating.

She Started Acting at a Young Age
The Australian actress made her television debut in a 2014 episode of an Australian romantic comedy series, Wonderland. Before she got to play Isabella Barrett in High Life(2017) and Cindi Jackson in Janet King (2017), Milly appeared in several television adverts for companies such as NBN, Cadbury, KFC, and also Woolworths.
The actress was at crossroads when she had to choose her role in Upright over a diploma certificate. Her role as a runaway teenager, Meg in the 2018 series earned her the casting Guild of Australia Rising Star Award in 2018. Also, she was nominated for best comedy performer for the same movie as well.
Although her role in Upright is not her debut, it is said to be a highly successful local production that brought her to the limelight.
Aside from her recurring role in House of the Dragon(2022), it was announced in March 2022 that Milly would also feature in series two of Upright.
Milly Alcock Worked as a Dishwasher before Joining the Cast of House of Dragons
Despite her successful role in Upright, the year 2020 took a toll on Milly Alcock especially because of the coronavirus pandemic. As a result of that, she found herself working as a dishwasher in a restaurant while she was staying in her mother’s attic.
The audition for the role of a Targaryen came as a self-tape for an unknown HBO project with no character names. Milly had no idea it was a role in the prequel to the much-acclaimed Game of Thrones. However, a close friend of hers later figured it but she was skeptical about it.
Alcock’s breakout role in House of the Dragon came as a huge surprise to her. The 24-year-old actress landed the high-profile role even without any prior knowledge of Game of Thrones. Milly revealed to Vogue that she wasn’t a fan of the HBO series and also, the series premiered when she was barely 10 so it was not age-appropriate for her.
Milly Alcock’s role as a Dragonrider of pure Valyrian blood, young Princess Rhaeenyra Targaryen in House of the Dragons is said to be one of the leading figures in the series. There are speculations that Milly would only appear in five episodes as the character would be taken over by Emma D’Arcy as the older version of the character.
