Sandra Bullock’s parents, John Wilson Bullock and Helga Mathilde are both no more. While Sandra’s father was an army employee and a part-time coach from Birmingham-Alabama, her mother Helga used to be an opera singer and voice teacher until her demise on the 4th of April 2000.

John who later died in 2018 initially met and married his wife Helga in Germany while on National duty during the Second World War Era. Their union produced one of the biggest names in holly wood, ‘Sandra Bullock,’ a successful award-winning actress known for her outstanding performance in movies like Speed (1994), The Heat (2013), and Hope Floats (1998).

Though so much has been said about the all-time T.V Star, there is still more about her parents that remains captivating.

Early Life And Times of Sandra Bullock’s Parents

1. John Wilson Bullock

Wilson was born to the family Jesse Burch Bullock and Mary Lablanche Wilson on the 11th of February 1925 in Birmingham, Alabama in the United States of America. He registered for military service in 1943, two years before the end of the second world war which began on the 1st of September 1939 and ended on the 2nd of September 1945.

He got married to Helga Mathilde Meyer in Germany’s second-largest city called Nuremberg while he was in charge of the Army’s Military Postal Service in Europe.

Wilson later returned with his family to Arlington where he served with the Army Materiel Command, an agency established on the 8th of May 1962 and saddled primarily with the responsibility of providing materiel to the United States Army. After his service with the command, he proceeded to be a contractor for the Pentagon; the headquarters building of the United States Department of Defense which was constructed on an accelerated schedule during the second world war.

He died on the 18th day of September 2018 at the good age of 93 and his remains were laid to rest in Jackson Lincoln Wyoming, in the United States of America.

2. Helga Mathilde Meyer

Sandra Bullock’s mother Helga was born on the 12th day of February 1942 in Nürnberg, Bavaria, Germany, to the family of a rocket scientist by name Eugen Meyer and Elisabeth Wilhelmine Böhnert. She was an opera singer and a voice coach at Mary Washington College for several years.

She was a frequent performer at Staatstheater Nürnberg and made it for several European Opera tours. Her vocals were also featured as soundtracks in some of her daughter’s productions like All About Steve.

Mathilde died in Arlington, Virginia at the age of 58 in 2000 after living a very productive and impactful life. She and her late husband left behind 4 daughters, Nancy Patricia Culbertson, Katherine Louise Anderson, Sandra Annette Bullock, and Gesine Vanessa Bullock-Prado. They also left to mourn them six grandchildren, and seven great-grandchildren

Wilson was honored with a bronze star for his heroic service in the second world war by the U.S government. The bronze star medal is the fourth-highest individual military award and the ninth-highest by order of precedence in the U.S military. He joined the service at the age of 18 almost immediately after graduating from Fairfield High School.

During the war, John served in countries like Northern France, Ardennes, Rhinel, and Central Europe as the person in charge of the Army’s Military Postal Service, a service that allows serving members of the armed forces to send and receive mail at a subsidized rate in the U.S

Mathilde Meyer battled colon cancer for some years before giving up the ghost in her 5th decade while Sandra’s father appears to have transited to the great beyond in peace at a good old age. Their death has remained a very bitter pill for everyone around them given the kind of impact they made on their children and society.

Sandra Bullock has become a big name not just as an actress and producer but also as the world’s highest-paid actress both in 2010 and 2014. She is estimated to have a whopping net worth of about $250 million. Her fortune is obviously from her entertainment business where she has been active since 1987.

Even though she had previously starred in movies like Love Potion (1992) and several others, her major breakthrough came forth in 1994 after she played Annie Porter alongside Keanu Reeves in speed in Speed; a $350 million worth Jan de Bont production.

Sandra has since starred in other movies like The Net (1995), Hope Floats (1998), and The Heat (2013). She has won multiple awards including Academy Awards (2010/2014) and Blockbuster Entertainment Awards just to mention a few.

4. Sandra Bullock’s Parents Almost Lost their Daughter in a Plane Crash

Famous movie star and daughter to the Bullocks escaped death by a whisker on the 20th of December 2000, the same year she lost her mum to the cold hands of death. The private jet runway crash was said to have been caused by a pilot error and some other careless conditions. Thankfully, Sandra alongside two of her crew members made it alive and without a scratch.

Sandra Bullock’s Parents appear to be a very accomplished couple. While we always talk about Sandra and her accomplishments it is also important to note that her younger sister Gesine Bullock-Prado is also an accomplished woman. She wears many colorful caps; first as a hard-working Spouse to Raymond Prado, an author, a chef, and an attorney. She is also a T.v personality and former film executive.

Born on the 6th of March 1970 in Washington DC, Gesine was able to bag two degrees from the University of Virginia and Southwestern Law school. She became Fortis Films lawyer in 1995 and worked as a co-producer with her sister for some time until when she left the film industry in 2004 and later opened Gesine Confectionary between 2005 to 2008.

She has authored several books including one she dedicated to her late mother titled My Life From Scratch.
