Rimma was born into a Jewish family in the Ukrainian Soviet Socialist Republic. Her family lived in one of the oldest communities of Ukraine and are survivors of the Holocaust and mass execution during World War II. Rimma’s parents strictly adhered to Jewish traditional holidays and observed Shabbat on Saturdays.
A former engineer, Volodymyr Zelenskyy’s mother got married to Oleksandr Zelensky who was a professor and the head of the Department of Cybernetics and Computing Hardware at Kryvyi Rih State University. Oleksandr lived and worked in Mongolia for 20 years as a mining scientist and specialized in automated geological surveying, mapping, and analysis support system. He Built a mining and processing plant in the city of Erdenet.

Rimma Zelenskaya Resigned as an Engineer Due to Health Issues and Is Now a Grandmother
Rimma Zelenskaya spent most of her life in her hometown in Kryvyi Rih, Ukraine. However, she moved to Mongolia, a landlocked country located between China and Russia to stay with her husband who was on mining science research alongside her son Volodymyr Zelenskyy.
Mongolia’s continental climate was mostly cold and dry. Zelenskaya’s health was affected by climate change so she had to return to Ukraine after four years to manage her health.
Though Rimma only birthed a child, she currently has two grandchildren who she is very fond of. Her granddaughter named Oleksandra was born on July 15, 2004, while her grandson Kyrylo was born in January 2013. They were birthed by Olena Volodymyrivnna Zelenska, Ukraine’s first lady, and Ukraine’s president Volodymyr Zelenskyy.
