Here is all we know about Yusef Rasheed, Oracene Price’s first husband

Yusef Rasheed died after suffering from a heart attack

Rasheed was born and raised in the United States. There are speculations that he has Nigerian roots. This rumor stemmed from the name he gave his first daughter, Yetunde, which translates to ‘mother has returned’ in the Yoruba language.

The exact year he married Oracene Price is not certain but some sources claimed they married in 1972. They had three children Yetunde, Isha, and Lyndrea together. Sadly, barely seven years later, he died of a sudden heart failure in his house.

His wife remarried after he died

Following his death, Price went on to marry Richard Williams in 1980. She and Williams had two daughters, tennis stars Venus and Serena, the famous Williams sisters.

Price, who used to work as a nurse and a teacher later became a tennis coach after Venus and Serena began to thrive in their tennis careers. According to reports, Price had to learn how to play tennis herself so she could teach her daughters the technical aspects of the game.

While she and her second husband won several tournaments with their daughters their marriage hit rock bottom. The marriage ended in 2002 but they continued to support their girls together.

Both Price and her ex-husband have received credits for their daughter’s successful careers. They have been praised for not only managing the girls’ careers but also their lives.

Another tragedy hit the family when Yetunde Price, the oldest of Rasheed’s daughters got shot. She was murdered in a drive-by shooting in Compton. She was pronounced dead after arriving at the hospital. She died from a bullet wound in the head.

A street gang member Robert Edward Maxfield was later sentenced to 15 years in prison for the crime in 2006 but was released in 2018. However, he was rearrested after he violated his parole.

Yetunde, the mother of three, was a personal assistant to her tennis-playing sisters and also a nurse. She also owned a hair salon.
