Isaiah Silva is an American musician and guitarist who is mostly known as the ex-husband of Frances Bean Cobain. The pair got married in 2014 but separated after 2 years in a messy divorce that saw Silva demand for spousal support and also filed a lawsuit against his mother-in-law Courtney Love stating conspiracy to assault, kidnap and attempt to murder him.
Just before we delve into Silva’s life, his ex-wife Frances is famed as the only daughter of the legendary singer, Kurt Cobain. While she never took a toe in her late father’s career, the 32 years old has long found passion in modeling and visual arts.
Brief Biography of Isaiah Silva
Isaiah Silva is 39 years old at the moment. He was born to his parents on January 20, 1985, and hails from Yorba Linda, California. From the reports we garnered, he had an unconventional upbringing and spend a major part of his early life and teenage years in the Fullerton assembly of God group – a gathering centered on strict Christian values and the second coming of Christ.
According to Isaiah, he saw women in the group get oppressed as they couldn’t even voice out their opinions. It was at that time he fought for his individuality and his family also stopped associating with the group.
Frances Bean Cobain’s Ex-husband is a Musician
Isaiah Silva’s music passion was ignited while trying to find a path for himself away from the unconventional upbringing he had. He soon got into punk music and beforehand learned how to play the guitar with his friends.
Later, he became part of an eclectic rock jam band known as The Rambles. They were partly rooted in country music as well as blues. With the band, they performed regular gigs at several clubs around Los Angeles and shows at the ‘Vipers Room’.
Unfortunately, he left the group after a while and later became a co-founder and guitarist of the rock band The Eeries. Other members of the group included Eliot Lorango, Mark Lear, Brandon Sweeney, and Nadir Maraschin. Silva’s Marriage to Frances Ended After Two Years
Silva and Frances tied the knot in June 29 2014 after dating for about 5 years. The pair were quite private at the start of their relationship as such, information on how and when they met isn’t known. However, they made their engagement public in October 2011.
In an interview, Silva stated that they are each other’s everything as well as homebodies. He also added that they don’t go to clubs or fancy outdoor engagements but prefer to stay at home reading books and watching their favorite series Arrested Development.
The pair later opted for a private wedding ceremony which was witnessed by about 15 friends and family members. However, her mother Courtney wasn’t part of their celebration. She revealed that she got to know via a phone call from her daughter.
Unfortunately, their marriage soon hit the rock leading up to a divorce in 2016 after being married for two years. From documented reports by the Los Angeles Superior court, the couple cited irreconcilable differences to be the cause.
The Former Couple Got Into a Bitter Court Battle
Silva and Frances’s divorce will always be remembered as a messy one which reportedly saw him demand a hefty spousal support payment of $25,000 every month. According to him, his ex-wife had over $100 million left to her from her father’s estate and had saved enough from a previous job. He also added that she promised to foot his monthly expenses when they married in 2014 including private school fees and household bills for his child from a previous relationship.
However, in disagreement, Frances’s divorce documents stated that all her inheritance from her late father, Kurt remain in her possession. This included his estate, guitar, jewelry, and other priced items which in total are valued at $450 million. Nonetheless, it was also reported that she is open to paying him spousal support.
While their divorce settlement was not publicly revealed, we garnered that among other things, Silva also won possession of Kurt’s old 1959 Martin D-18E guitar which he claimed was in fact a gift from Frances.
Silva Later Filed a Lawsuit Against His Mother in law
In 2018, two years after his divorce from Frances, he file a lawsuit against his mother-in-law Courtney Love following her attempt to recover the famous guitar which was part of his divorce settlement.
Silva maintained that the guitar was given to him as a gift by his ex-wife even though his wife denied ever gifting him what her mother called the priceless family heirloom. According to Courtney, Frances never gave him the guitar as no one except the family should have its possession.
In response, Silva stated that Courtney and her business manager Sam Lutfi had conspired to assault, kidnap and attempt to murder him. He added that Courtney had masterminded a plot by several men disguised as police to break into his home but was saved by a visiting friend who blocked their vehicle and called the police.
However, all claims were refuted by Courtney who said she had no hand in it. After a few months on the case, they both reached an agreement the guitar was auctioned for $6 million. Nonetheless, the terms of the settlement have not been disclosed.
