Damien Valentine is a multi-talented British filmmaker with specialties ranging from animated filmmaking to creating costumes for cosplay, editing, voice acting, video game modding, and 3D modeling. He is most notable for his 2007 Star Wars fan film, The Death of Jar Jar which was well received by a lot of audiences and lauded by George Lucas himself. It was also used by Lucas Arts for the Star Wars 30th anniversary.

Damien Valentine as you would easily find was born on October 4, 1983. In those early years, he chose animation due to the challenges he faced. This included finding the resources such as a greenhorn and cameras that he could not afford as well as other things to support his dream. As a result, he concentrated on animation which allowed him to use his friend’s voices while crafting stories in 2D. Aside from being less costly for him, animation also provided a means of staying in touch with friends that stayed far from him.

While this initial setback could have discouraged many, Valentine remained focused on following his dream when he discovered machinima, and as a result, 3D animation.

After Falling in the Darkness, he soon released other works including Darkness Saga and Chronicles of Humanity. Since then Damien Valentine has moved on to be a recognized and well-appreciated figure with his all-out creativity and passion to tell a story, which set him apart from many indie filmmakers.

1. Star Trek and Buffy are Part of His Early Creative Influences.

Damien Valentine grew up watching Babylon 5—a futuristic space opera 90s series, Star Trek, Star Wars (apparently), and Buffy among others. These stories ignited his own story-telling muse, and are part of the influences that shaped his works. Buffy’s influence can be seen in his vampire series Consanguinity which he first produced in 2004 using Machinima, the use of videogame engines to create animations.

He’s also attested to being a fan of the Star Wars tie-in novel, Heir to the Empire by Timothy Zahn. It was published in 1991 when the Star Wars Franchise was in a slump in popularity and was written to be a sequel to the original three movies.

In 2019, Damien decided to adapt the first chapter of the book as an animated short story, as a way of testing some of his ideas, refining and improving his skills. He posted it on YouTube and received very positive feedback and reactions that spurred him to adapt more chapters from the book.

2. Valentine Owns a Production Company

He founded his production company Bathtub Productions, through which he’s produced a ton of projects, including the vampire series Consanguinity, and the well-known four-part Star Wars “The Darkness Saga.”

In 2008 he began working on his own original series called The Chronicles of Humanity.

3. Damien is also a Voice-actor

Starting out his animated filmmaking projects, it was largely a one-man endeavor. Remember the limitations in getting other performers to work with him on his film ideas was what turned him to animation in the first place, so the venture had oftentimes seen him playing multiple roles in conceptualizing, designing, editing, and acting, as well as creating sound effects.

In his 2007 fan film The Death of Jar Jar, he played the role of Worf. He reprised the role in Star Wars: Darkness Unleashed (2007) and Star Wars: A Galaxy in Darkness (2009).
Like other multitalented movie entertainers, he is a voice actor. He voiced the character Agent in his original series, Chronicles of Humanity, and as Galak Dor/Emperor Palpatine/Rukh/Stormtrooper in Star Wars: The Imperials, and up to 8 characters by himself in his adaptation series of Star Wars: Heir to the Empire.

…or we might say, of the ones in his neighborhood at least. He doesn’t appear to own any himself and has once revealed that he’s allergic to them. This does not, however, stop the special bond between himself and the cats that always come by his residence to visit, and this is obvious from his several posts and photos of them on his socials.
