Tom’s parents were both teachers. His father used to run the science department at a well-known school in Oxford.
In pursuit of his educational qualifications, the actor attended the Dragon School and later Abingdon School where he was in the choir and was later made the chief chorister. He was also a member of the National Youth Theatre and the National Youth Music Theatre.
Tom Hollander later enrolled at Selwyn College where he read English and was actively involved in several stage productions.
His career in acting started in on-stage theatre productions. In 1981, at the age of 14, he got the lead role in a BBC dramatization of Leon Garfield’s John Diamond (1981).
