How Tenth Avenue North Was Formed
In 2000, Mike Donehey and Jason Jamison but never saw it becoming the big hit it became. Other members joined them along the line.
While some left, Donehey remained a consistent part of the band and the lead vocalist.
The band did many independent albums and EPs before launching their debut album, Over And Underneath in 2008.
Between 2000 and 2021, they recorded successes. The band won GMA Dove Awards for By Your Side as song of the Year in 2010. They also got many nominations for other songs.
Other awards won by Tenth North Avenue include New Artist Of The Year in 2009.
Over the years, the band partnered with Compassion International to support children. they encouraged their audiences to support the organization during live performances.

1. Why Did They Name The Band Tenth Avenue North
While trying to get a name for the band. They taught of different names but finally settled for the name of their street.
The name was to be temporary following an invitation to play at a conference. They never got around to changing it. For close to two decades of the band’s existence, they maintained that name.
Once, when the band was to play, the band was referred to as Sixth Street Southeast, lol.
2. The Band Started Singing From college
The Band started singing right from college. After college, they paid attention to it and kept releasing one album after another.
It all started in Florida and is now located in Tennessee.
3. Tenth Avenue North Was Discovered By ReUnion Records
The band was discovered by ReUnion records and it produced their 2008 album, Over And Underneath. The record was a success as it reached a Gold certification by the RIAA.
4. Who Writes Songs For Tenth Avenue North Band
From the beginning, Mike Donehey always wrote their songs.
Despite that, other band members have an input on how this songs sound. Most times they are open to criticizing some parts of it.
Jamison, a former band member described Donehey as the driving force of their lyrics.
5. Why Tenth Avenue North Is After Souls
In an interview with News-Press, Mike Donehey said his awards are not hung in his Nashville home. Isn’t that surprising? But he keeps them in a box.
As to why he does that, he said it’s because awards make bands pit against each other. Tenth North Avenue sings to reach out to people who have real issues. The band is happy in influencing people’s redemption and reconciliation.
Mike made it known that some of his favorite artists have never won a Grammy.
6. Voices From Audience Were Used In Some Of The Songs
Two of their albums are live performances that had audience voices. Losing from the Struggle album had audience voices recorded on the song. To date, it is still one of their sold-out commercial projects.
Audience members came to the studio for the recording of their vocals.

7. The Farewell Tour
For some years, the band had at least five people. From 2018, individual members started living to pursue other interests.
In 2020 they released their final album with Reunion records titled No Shame. They also announced their tour, however, another life-changing announcement was that the tour would be their Finally Living Tour.
Tenth North Avenue remaining members were Donehey, John Owen, and Ruben Juarez. Their Finally living tour was going to be accompanied by a letter explaining the situation of the band.
Donehey, Jamison, Juarez, Owen, and Shirley were to reunite for the final shows. 13 out of 15 original members made it to the first concert held in 2021.
Where Are The Members Of Tenth Avenue North Now?
While the Tenth Avenue North band disbanded, its members are doing other things.
Jamison left in 2018 to spend more time with his family. At the same time, he took a position with Compassion international. Spencer Ford replaced him as the touring drummer.
Brandon Shirley is pursuing other business ventures with his wife.
Mike Donehey continues to sing solo and has released his book. His book, Finding God’s Will For My Life is an inspiration. He also hosts Chasing the Beauty Podcast.
