Iranian actor Shervin Alenabi had to learn how to speak Arabic for his break-out role in 2019’s Baghdad in My Shadow. The actor was born in Iran in 1995 and is one of the few Iranian actors that have made a name for himself in the movie industry bagging himself an Emmy recognition.

Asides from his passion for acting, the Iranian actor also shows support for causes he believes are reasonable. He is an advocate for the freedom of Iranian women and he is quite vocal about his desires.

Shervin Alenabi Made His Film Debut at the Age of 22 and Now Has a Dozen Movie Credits

The Iran-born actor came into the world of movies at the age of 16, in 2011. He was born on August 26, 1995, but by 2007, he and his family immigrated to the United Kingdom. Here, Shervin Alenabi got his basic education before delving into acting.

In 2011, the 29-year-olds first movie role was as Zak Trevers in the TV Series Time Agent.

However, the role for which he got wide recognition is Nasseer in the movie Baghdad in My Shadow. For his role, he had to learn how to speak Arabic seeing that he is mostly fluent in English, Persia, and Kurdish.

Following impressive performances in his earliest roles, Shervin Alenabi has been cast in the following movies;

  • Bored Games (2011 short film) – As Boy
  • No Through Road (2011-2012 TV Series) – As Christian Lean
  • Skins (2013 TV Series) – As Norman
  • Doctors (2015 TV Series) – As Mahdi Kabir
  • Playing Dead (2018 Short Film) – As Rojan
  • Baghdad in My Shadow – As Nasseer
  • HotHed (2020 Short film)
  • Gangs of London (2020 TV Series) – As Agrin
  • The Bureau (2020 TV Series) – As Salim
  • Tehran (2020-2022 TV Series) – As Milad Kahani
  • The Persian Version (2023) – As Young Ali Reza

So far, his most-rated movie is the 2023-released Persian Version.

Alenabi Has an Emmy Award Recognition for His Acting Skill

Shervin Alenabi has been recognized quite a few times for his contribution to the creation of notable movies. One of Alenabi’s movies that has clearly left an imprint in the hearts and minds of people to date remains Tehran.

It is a political thriller movie about a Mossad agent who went on a journey as a computer hacker in her hometown of Tehran. This mission happened to be her first and it wasn’t easy for her. Alenabi starred in 16 episodes of the 24 episodes from 2020-2023.

Shervin was cast as Milad Kahani in the movie mentioned above and it was nominated for an International Emmy for ‘Best Drama’ in 2021. The movie won this award.

In 2022, Alenabi and the Tehran family yet again received a nomination at the Critics’ Choice. This nomination was for ‘Best Foreign Language Series’. It was presented to the entire cast and crew of the 2020-2022 movie.

The Persian Version was also nominated at the 2023 Sundance Film Festival awards. The cast and crew which Shervin is part of, won the Audience Award for U.S Dramatic.

He is an Advocate for the Liberation of Iranian Women

From an Instagram post, Shervin Alenabi is obviously an advocate for the freedom of women back in his home country.

Despite being away from home since he was 12 years old, the Iranian actor still has roots binding him there. He also proudly identifies as an Iranian and lends his voice to issues the country faces.

Back on October 2, 2022, he was part of agitations calling for women’s emancipation in Iran.

His post was a cry for the Iranian government to stop the ‘murderous killings’ and liberate their women.
