Sean Johnson Flew the Helicopter that Killed Him and 5 Others
As we have already pointed out, Sean Johnson was the pilot of the helicopter that cashed into the Hudson River in New York City on April 10, 2025. Along with Johnson, the devastating accident also claimed the lives of a Spanish family of five, who had traveled to the United States to celebrate a birthday.
The other victims, Agustín Escobar and Mercè Camprubí Montal, along with their three children—Agustín, 10, Mercè, 8, and Víctor, 4—were onboard the helicopter when it suffered catastrophic failure and plunged into the river at high speed, breaking apart on impact. Our findings show that Escobar was the chief executive of Siemens’ rail infrastructure division in Spain.
When the horrifying news broke, it quickly spread around the internet as shocked netizens wondered what had happened to the helicopter. What occurred in the final moments of the aircraft that caused it to fall out of the sky into the Husdon River, killing everyone onboard?
Final Moments of the Flight and Radio Transmission
Fresh reports have revealed that the helicopter was low on fuel before the crash. This is because prior to the crash, the pilot, Sean Johnson reportedly radioed the base to inform staff that he was returning to the helipad to refuel. This move that was expected to take just three minutes. However, the helicopter never arrived.
Michael Roth, owner of New York Helicopter, the company operating the ill-fated flight, spoke to The Telegraph about the harrowing events leading up to the crash. He said:
“He called in that he was landing and that he needed fuel. It should have taken him three minutes to get back, but 20 minutes later, there was no sign of the aircraft.”
Roth, whose company provides aerial tours of New York City, expressed deep sorrow over the incident.
“We are all devastated—every employee, every pilot. My wife has not stopped crying. I received a call from my manager at the downtown heliport, and then the calls started pouring in. One of our pilots later confirmed seeing the helicopter upside down in the river.”

There Is An Ongoing Investigation Into The Crash
The tragic helicopter crash occurred around 3:15 PM near the New Jersey side of the Hudson River. Radar data has since showed that the aircraft initially flew north along Manhattan’s skyline before turning south toward the Statue of Liberty. Just 15 minutes into the flight, tragedy struck and the helicopter crashed.
Dramatic footage from the scene of the tragic incident showed the helicopter’s rotor detaching as the craft nose-dived into the water, scattering debris and sending emergency teams into action. While the cause of the crash remains under investigation, authorities are working diligently to determine what led to the catastrophic failure.

Accompanied by the caption, “When it all comes together…,” the video received praise from friends and fellow aviators, many applauding his dedication to pursuing his dreams in aviation.
