Sara Parker Bowles, also known as Sara Buys is the only known daughter-in-law of the United Kingdom’s Queen Consort Camila. She was also the wife of British food writer and critic Tom Parker Bowles from 2005 until their split in 2018 after 13 years.
Despite her coming to the limelight through her association with the British royal family, Sara has made a name for herself in the media and fashion industries with her work experiences in Vogue as an associate editor with Harper’s Bazaar.
Sara is a Graduate of Leeds University
Born Sara Buys, the English woman attended several schools including South Hampstead High School before heading to the University of Leeds for her higher education. There, she obtained a Master of Arts in English Literature (British and Commonwealth).
She is not the only woman associated with the royal family that attended the University. Prince Harry’s ex-girlfriend Chelsy Davy also studied Law at the same university.
She Has a Career with a Number of High profile Magazines
In 1994 when she was about the age of 21, Sara started her professional career in the media and fashion sectors under Vogue. At the time, she served as a features assistant for about 6 years before leaving in 2000.
In March 2000, the English woman started another phase of her career with Harper’s Bazaar as a fashion features director. She held the position for 5 years before moving to become an associate editor of the same company in 2012.
At the time of this writing, Sara continues with her Harper’s Bazaar in the UK, and Town & Country job as a senior contributing editor.
She Was Married to Queen Consort Camila’s Eldest Son for 13 Years
5 years after Sara dated Tom Parker Bowles, the eldest son of Queen Consort Camila and a food writer, food critic, and TV personality, they settled for marriage.
The marriage was held on September 10, 2005, at St. Nicholas’ Anglican Church in Rotherfield Greys, Oxfordshire.
It also came about 5 months after Her Royal Highness Camila became the wife of King Charles III on April 9, 2005.
2 years after the wedding, Sara Parker Bowles had her first child, a daughter named Lola Parker Bowles on October 9, 2007. The daughter became the first granddaughter of Camila and the first step-granddaughter of King Charles III.
In 2010, she became a mother for the second time to a son, Fredrick Parker Bowles; the second grandchild and first grandson of Camilla.
Why She Split From Tom Parker
In 2018, 13 years after Tom and Sara became married, they split. The reason for the decision has not been recorded but it may not be farfetched from irreconcilable differences.
Whatever the case, Tom moved on with his romantic life and began dating former journalist Alice Procope in 2019. On March 17, 2021, Procope, mother of 3, died in her home months after she was diagnosed with cancer.
Sara, on the other hand, has kept a low profile since the separation and there is no knowledge of her romantic life.
Will Sara Parker Bowles Recieve a Royal Title After Camilla is Made Queen Consort?
Sara will not receive any royal title and neither will her ex-husband nor his sister Laura Lopes.
As to why she will not receive any royal title despite her being the daughter-in-law of the 11th Queen Consort of the United Kingdom, she is no longer married to Camilla’s son.
Even if she was, the royal title of British is passed to descendants or through marriage. With this in mind, Sara is not one of the children of the royal family and neither is she married to one of them. Instead, she is married to Tom who in turn does not have any blood connection to the family – except that his mother is married to the King of England of course!
Despite this, her ex, Tom may get security from Scotland Yard royal protection if it’s needed.
Sara Parker Bowles “Sara Buys” may not be in the life of Queen Consort Camila but she remains a vital aspect of the life of the royal woman life for being the mother of the first of her many grandchildren. The breaking of her marriage contributes to the 40-42% of divorces in the UK. Yet, she increases the 72% of female employment rate in the country.
