Rotraud happens to be the co-founder of the cabaret Die Wühlmäuse and it was there she met the German comedian, actor, and singer, Dieter Hallervorden. The two fell in love and began a relationship that would lead to marriage.

The exact day they got married is not available. However, they are known to have two children together. Their first child is Dieter Jr. and he was born in 1963 while their second child is Nathalie, born in 1966.

Unfortunately, Rotraud and Dieter’s relationship grew sour, leading to their divorce in the mid-1980s.

Meanwhile, Schindler became known primarily as her husband’s sketch partner in the comedy series Nonstop Nonsense (1975–1980). She also played alongside Dieter Hallervorden in Didi (1989).
