In 1996, at the height of his career, Skorniakov switched from representing Russia to Uzbekistan. He quickly established himself as a force to be reckoned with in Uzbekistani figure skating. With the team, he claimed the national championship title for seven consecutive years, from 1997 to 2003.
Skorniakov’s talent also made for him on the international stage. He was selected as part of the Uzbekistani Olympic team for both the 1998 and 2002 Winter Olympics. Even though he did not win a medal, he recorded two 19th-place finishes and solidified his place as a renowned skater. Beyond the Olympics, Skorniakov also became renowned for his international achievements at the Four Continents Championships, an event that featured skaters from Asia, Oceania, Africa, and the Americas.

IIia’s parents, Roman Skorniakov and Tatiana Malinina have been married for over 2 decades. There are no established records of how the pair met and when their relationship started. However, since they both pursued the same career in sports, it’s possible that they crossed paths while following their careers.
Skorniakov and Malinina got married sometime in January 2000 in a ceremony that was held in Dale City, Virginia and witnessed by friends and family. Their union did not just improve their personal life but also help their professional careers.

Skorniakov’s Children Took After His Career Path in Skating
Roman Skorniakov and his wife, Tatiana Malinina are proud parents of two children. The couple welcomed their first son Ilia Malinin in 2004, three years after they got married. In 2014, the Skorniakov-Malinina family welcomed a daughter into their lives.
Being raised in an ice skating family, it was only time before Skorniakov’s son, IIia also develop passion for skating despite his first for soccer. He got started at the age of six in Reston Virginia and was solely trained by his coaching parents. After school, he would join them at the rink where they worked as coaches and take some time to play on the ice.
From the early start of his skating career, IIia has displayed exceptional talent that saw him earn several titles. Moving on, he became the first skater in international competition to accomplish a quadruple Axel, which is regarded as one of the most difficult leaps in figure skating. He also got earned on a spot Time Magazine’s Time100 Next List and the nickname “quad god”.
Most recently, he emerged victorious at the 2023 CS Autumn Classic International and the Japan Open. There, he won in the men’s section as a part of Team North America.
