When it comes to vallenato music, Colombians will always remember Patricia Teherán who became a genius in the genre largely dominated by men. Her talent was discovered by Graciela Ceballos in 1988.
Although her life was short-lived, she is still referenced until this day. Her character was portrayed in a biopic series by the Ecuadorian actress and activist María Elisa Camargo.
She Was Born into a Musical Family
Teherán was born in Cartagena, Bolivar Colombia on the 10th of June 1969 to her parents Luz Romero and Carlos Teherán.
She grew up watching her father play the accordion while her mother sang. The late Colombian singer developed a passion for music at a very tender age and learned how to play the clarinet and saxophone. She also received training from her dad on playing the accordion.
During her teenage years, she was invited to sing and play her instruments at several festivals during her which earned her several awards. She was also opportune to meet Chela Ceballos, at one of the festivals who became her gateway to multiple success.
Following that, she became part of the Chela all-female group and moved to the ‘Las Musas del Vallenato’ group where she was polished.
She Died in a Car Accident
Patricia Teherán met her death on January 19, 1995, after signing to be part of the Barranquilla carnival tagged ‘Las Diosas del Vallenato’.
That afternoon, the Colombian singer was traveling from Barranquilla to Cartagena alongside her boyfriend Víctor, Guillermo, and Tayron Del Cristo when their vehicle’s tire blew out causing the car to crash. The accident claimed her life and that of her partner Victor. She was only 25 years old at the time it happened.

The Colombian singer was trapped in a love triangle during her life on earth. On one hand was her boyfriend Victor Sierra who would give up his life for her and on the other hand, was her friend and song promoter Rodrigo Castillo who was a friend at least everyone thought so until she became pregnant.
Patricia’s pregnancy caused a lot of strife between Rodrigo who had become so possessive of her and Victor who wasn’t ready to let go. At one time, the artist’s boyfriend Victor challenged her baby daddy to a fight despite his armed escort.
As the story goes, Patricia was in a dilemma because she was in love with both of them. However, she reconciled with Victor on one of their trips to Barranquilla for one of the best vallenato programs in the 90. The pair started a new life and hoped for a new beginning until the unfortunate happened and claimed their lives

2. Her Only Son is Taking after her Legacy
Yuri Alexander is the product of Patricia’s relationship with Rodrigo Castillo. He was born on September 24, 1994, and was only four months old when his mother died. Alex was raised by his maternal grandparent.
According to him, he never met his real dad until his death and only recognized his grandparents as his guardians. At present, the 30 years old is following his mother’s legacy as a vallenato singer. He is also a DJ at ‘La Heroica’, and an actor largely known by his stage name Alex Teheran.
3. Her Father Was Imprisoned for a Long Time
Carlos Teheran is the name given as Patricia’s father and the grandfather of Yuris Alexander Teherán Romero.
The singer never spoke about her private life when she was alive. But according to sources, her father spent a long time in jail before he died. He was involved in some illegal dealings.

Maria Elisa Camargo depicted the character of Patricia Teheran in the musical series “Tarde Lo Conocí”. The movie is a portrayal of a fascinating talent who dared to win in a world viewed as a man’s world as a means of saving her family from poverty.
