N’Neka Garland was the producer of the Daytime Emmy-winning television show General Hospital. The Hampton University graduate started working on the ABC daytime soap in 2007 as an assistant before she became the executive producer.
Also known to be rapper Tupac Shakur’s stepsister, N’Neka Garland was confirmed dead on Monday, 27 March 2023 by her father, William Garland. The producer died after suffering a heart attack at her home in Sherman Oaks and was taken to Providence Saint Joseph Medical Center in Burbank. She was 49.
Who is N’Neka Garland?
N’neka N’jeri Garland was born on 11 April 1973 in Jersey City, New Jersey. She was raised alongside her siblings Landon, Malik, Tekerra, and Leslie in New Jersey. She attended Somerville High School and later on, she earned a degree in Mass Media from Hampton University in Virginia in 1995.
Apparently, N’Neka and legendary rapper, Tupac Shakur shared the same father, William ‘Billy’ Garland. Reports say her father married her mother, whose name remains unknown after he left Tupac and his mother, Afeni Shakur. Afeni and William ‘Billy’ were both members of the Black Panther.

N’Neka Garland, often described as a shining star, died on March 27, 2023. Reports say she suffered a heart attack at her home in Sherman Oaks. She died at the Providence Saint Joseph Medical Center in Burbank.

1. She Started Working in the Entertainment Industry in 2007
After N’Neka graduated from the university, she did a couple of gigs. She worked as an assistant to veteran producer Jill Farren Phelps. She also worked on the show, One Life to Live before she began her work on the ABC daytime soap in 2007.
She first started as an assistant then she rose to associate producer in 2015. In 2018, she served as the coordinating producer; in 2021, she became an executive producer.
2. Was She Really Tupac Shakur’s Stepsister?
As already stated above, N’Neka’s father and Tupac’s mother knew each. After the rapper died in 1996, Afeni and Willian also called Billy took a DNA test that showed a 99% probability that the latter was his father.
With the DNA results allegedly saying he was the rapper’s father, N’Neka’s father to Tupac’s mother to court claiming half of Tupac’s estate, however, it was denied.
According to reports, N’Neka’s father has strong genes which made all his children look like him.
3. Where are Siblings Now?
The executive producer actually has six siblings through her father. Her brother Landon reportedly lives in Florida where he used to work. Landon is said to be the spitting image of Tupac. Malik, on the other hand, lives in New Jersey and is an electrician.
During an interview, her sister Tekerra revealed they have another brother named Billy. Billy was incarcerated in the past but when he came out, he went to school and became a dental technician.
N’Neka’s sister, Tekerra is a budding author. Having started her career as a writer at the age of 17, some of Tekerra’s books include White Man’s World.
Of the six children her father had, three of them had the same mother while Tupac and the other son have different mums. Despite that, N’Neka Garland and her siblings were raised together except for Tupac who was raised by his mother and stepfather.
4. She Received an Award in 2021
Garland’s hard work and dedication towards work have earned her respect among the General Hospital cast and personnel. She has also been praised for her Daytime Emmy expertise. While most people would remember her for her kindness and large heart, some would remember her as an awardee for the Daytime Emmy awards in 2021. It could be recalled that the producer had previously received two nominations for the same award.
The same year she received the award, the show writers named a recurring fictional character after her which is portrayed by Arlondriah.
