The stage name Suga was derived and adopted for two reasons. First, he chose the name because it reminded him of who he was as a basketball player. He used to be a shooting guard and so he came up with Suga as a deviation of ‘shoo(ting)’ and ‘gua(guard). He eventually just shortened it to ‘Suga’.
The second reason he chose the name is that he was always referred to as sweet by his group members and CEO and so he decided to promote his sweetness.
However, he also goes by the stage name Agust D which is derived from the initials of his birthplace DT and his first stage name. Agust DT stands for ‘Daegu Town’ and then ‘Suga’ spelled backward.

8. Min Yoongi Has Had A Couple Of Health-related Issues
Min Yoongi has unfortunately been a regular with hospitals and accidents. His first major recorded accident was one he had on a bike while running deliveries as a trainee. He tried to cover the accident up from his employers because he feared he’d be let off work. However, when he eventually told the truth, he was helped through his struggles.
On the 9th day of the last month of the year 2013, Suga had to undergo surgery at the Severance Hospital in Sinchon. The surgery was for appendicitis which he was diagnosed with. He was discharged after a few days but re-admitted due to complications.
December again of 2016, Suga tripped over a door threshold and sustained an injury to his ear. This caused him to refrain from performing and participating in the group’s activities during the holiday. He was advised to let the ear heal properly.

Min Yoongi has been quite invested in philanthropic work and has since been doing what he can to help people. Before his rise to fame, in 2014, he promised to buy his fans meat if he succeeds as a musician. When he eventually did, he fulfilled his promise in 2018 by donating beef to 39 orphanages in the name of his fan base.
