Meghan Markle, the Duchess of Sussex, has officially made her return to Instagram after a five-year hiatus from the platform.
Markle, who is an American member of the British royal family, relaunched her personal Instagram account on New Year’s Day by posting a video which was filmed by her husband, Prince Harry, on a beach near their home in Montecito, California.
In the video, which has now gone viral online, the 43-year-old Meghan Markle, can be seen happily running barefoot toward the waves, while having her back to the camera. When she always reaches the waves, she pauses to trace “2025” in the sand, lets out a giggle, and jogs away.
Interestingly, the Duchess of Sussex, disabled comments on the post. However, the post has gone on to garner thousands of “likes” from fans and celebrity friends including Oprah Winfrey, Serena Williams, Chrissy Teigen, and Tan France.
Recall that some months ago, in August 2023, Markle secured the handle @meghan for her Instagram return, as reported by Page Six. Beloved by many people, Meghan’s account racked up over 590,000 followers within just hours after creating it. The account now has nearly 1 million followers.
At the moment, she has not yet followed anyone on the account. It is noteworthy that her profile photo is in black-and-white and features her smiling with her hair down.
In a previous interview that she had with The Cut, Meghan Markle hinted at her return to Instagram, saying, “Do you want to know a secret? I’m getting back…on Instagram.” Her personal comeback to the platform marks nearly five years since the final post on her and Prince Harry’s now-inactive joint account, @sussexroyal, in March 2020.
Recall that Meghan Markle had initially deactivated her personal social media accounts in January 2018 following her engagement to Prince Harry, the Duke of Sussex and the son of King Charles III. But, it appears that she is now back to stay.
