Sometimes circumstances make people realize their dreams, something they didn’t expect would be their calling from the beginning. Matt Shultz didn’t know he would grow up to take a career in music. But his parents’ divorce and the fact that his mother kicks things off with his football coach pushed him into quitting and turning to music.

Before the birth of Cage the Elephant, the singer/songwriter spend some time working in other places. Shultz alongside his older brother and a couple of high school buddies founded the band.

He went on to gain recognition as the band’s lead singer and occasional guitarist. Here is more about him and the women he married.

Brief Biography of Matt Shultz

He was born on 23rd October 1983 in Bowling Green, Kentucky, the United States to his father Brad Shultz Sr. and his mother. He grew up together with his only sibling and older brother Brad.

The singer didn’t have things easy while growing up, for he wasn’t born with a silver spoon. It is on good record that sometimes he and his older brother are taunted by other kids in their school. The kids most times call his older brother “poor boy”.

However, life often throws stones, what one chooses to do the stones matters. It is either they become stepping stones or stumbling blocks. The Shultz brothers choose the former.

The American singer/songwriter and musician has married two different women within a period of 6 years. Regrettably, the first marriage hit the rocks just 4 years into the union. And 2 years after, he walks down the aisle with another woman.

To this very moment, speculations continue to abound as to why his first marriage ended. Many are suggesting that his affair with the woman he married recently could be responsible. But, it is not exactly clear what the actual problem was.

1. He Married Juliette Buchs From 2014 To 2018

The ex-wife of the singer was born and brought up in France on 18th March 1983. Asides, gaining popularity because of her brief marriage to Shultz, she has a little empire of her own making.  She is an actress, producer, writer, and director.

She features in Cage the Elephant’s Cigarette Daydreams music video in 2014. Two years down the lane, she directed the band’s next song, Trouble in 2016. She also worked on Chaturanga and plays the role of Alice in the adventure-romance short film the Collected Kingdom in 2016.

Her marriage to Shultz took place in 2014. Before the union, reports show that they dated for more than two years.

Rather sadly, the two couldn’t settle their differences, leading to a divorce in 2018. The marriage lasted only four years.

After the divorce from Juliette Buchs, Shultz didn’t take much time before moving on. For, he found love in the eyes of another woman. He walks down the aisle with Eva Daire in 2020.

There are many rumors suggesting that he may have been cheating on his ex-wife with her. But, none of these speculations have been confirmed.

Shultz’s current wife also has her career.  she is an actress, choreographer, and musician. She first crosses paths with him in Kentucky, which happens to be his hometown.

During the course of their relationship, he wrote her a song titled Love’s The Only Way.

1. He Is From A Music Family

Shultz may have inherited the musical gene from their father who is also a musician. This is why he and his older brother Brad are in the same rock band. He is most grateful to his father for always encouraging them to pursue a musical career.

2. His Parents Separated While He Was He Young

Divorce is often hard on kids. Shultz felt the same thing when his dad and mum divorced each other while he was just a kid.

3. He Played Highschool Football

Shultz played football while in high school. Who knows he may have pursued a career in football, but his mother’s relationship with his coach made him quit. According to him, he didn’t want to be stuck there for the rest of his life.

4. Shultz Did Various Jobs Before His Music Career Kicked Off Properly

Before the founding of  Cage the Elephant, he worked in several places. First, he took a plumbing job with a construction firm. He also worked with his brother at a sandwich bar.

5. His Musical Influences

He has been influenced by bands such as the Pixies, whose vocal style inspires his vocals. He reveals that he discovers them together with other punk bands while living in England. While his stage persona is stimulated by Iggy Pop.

6. Music Is Not Only The Thing He Is Explores

His career in the Art worked started when he became the lead singer and founding member of Cage the Elephant. While he continues singing, he has is also exploring other limitless areas of artistic importance, such as dance, fashion design, visual art, and performance art.

He went to release a Boot Collect with The Frye Company in March 2019. He also launched his debut art show in Greenpoint, Brooklyn, alongside New York artist, Danny Cole, Beck, and other friends.

7. His Band Won A Grammy In 2016

Cage the Elephant received its first nomination in 2011 when Shake Me Down video was selected in the best rock video category at the VMA. Three years later, Melophobia got a Grammy nomination for Best Alternativ Music at the 57th Annual Grammy Awards.

A win at the Grammys came 2 years later in 2016 when Tell Me I’m Pretty won the Grammy for Best Rock Album at the 59th Grammy Awards.
