Madison Keys and her boyfriend Bjorn Fratangelo crossed paths on the court, just as tennis brought Gael Monfils and Elina Svitolina together. While Fratangelo found love through the game, it also thrust him into the spotlight, beginning in 2011 when he became the second of three Americans to win the boys’ singles title, defeating Dominic Thiem at the French Open. The following year, he turned pro and competed in 4 Grand Slam singles events: the Australian Open, the French Open, Wimbledon, and the US Open.
Here’s more about the Pittsburgh native, how he got into tennis, and how he met Keys.
Born In Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, Bjorn Fratangelo Was Named After 11-Time Grand Slam Singles Winner Bjorn Borg
Madison Keys’ boyfriend Bjorn Fratangelo, 31, was born on July 19, 1993, in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, to Mario P. Fratangelo and Pamela (nee Schirano) Fratangelo. Although it is unknown how many siblings he has, his only known sibling is Maria Fratangelo.
He was named after Bjorn Borg, a legendary Swedish tennis player, and 11-time Grand Slam singles champion. His father gave him the name because Borg was his childhood idol. He stated that his father met with the Swedish tennis legend before he was born.
Fratangelo partook in a few sports as a child, but his father introduced him to tennis at the age of three. Because he was introverted, he preferred individual sports over team sports, so he gravitated toward tennis. At the end of the day, he got really good at it.
He attended St. John the Baptist School in Plum, Pennsylvania, until the eighth grade. He moved to Naples, Florida, to concentrate on his tennis training while still enrolling in online classes at Barron Collier High School.

Bjorn, The 2nd Of 3 Americans To Win The Boys’ Singles Title, After John McEnroe (197) And Before Tommy Paul (2015)
Bjorn Fratangelo has his father Mario to thank for introducing him to tennis and being his coach until he was 19. Before his 18th birthday, he competed at the 2011 French Open and made a name by defeating Dominic in the final to win the boys’ singles title.
Back home, he rose to prominence, and to this day, only 3 Americans have accomplished the feat. John McEnroe did it initially in 1977, then Borj in 2011, and Tommy Paul in 2015.
Fratangelo turned pro in 2012, and has competed in four Grand Slam events: the Australian Open (2016, 2017, 2019), the French Open (2016), Wimbledon (2016), and the US Open (2017).
He has yet to win a major championship in his professional career.
Bjorn And Keys Both Trained At The Same Facility In Boca Raton And Began Dating After Moving To Orlando
Tennis brought both Fratangelo and Keys to Boca Raton, Florida, from their respective hometowns of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, and Rock Island, Illinois. They trained at the same facility and were part of a close group of friends while there.
Fratangelo then relocated to Orlando, followed by Keys. They had been living in the same apartment complex for some time and had begun to hang out frequently.
They began dating in 2017 and got engaged in March 2023. After Fratangelo proposed to her, Keys uploaded a photo of the engagement ring on Instagram.
