Lynyrd Skynyrd was founded in 1964 by Ronnie Van Zant, Gary Rossington, Allen Collins, Larry Junstrom, and Bob Burns. In October 1977, a plane crash killed Van Zant, Steve Gaines, and Cassie Gaines, while the rest were injured. Shortly, the rock band disbanded and reunited after a decade in 1987. The current members of the band are Rickey Medlocke, Johnny Van Zant, Michael Cartellone, Mark Matejka, Peter Keys, and Keith Christopher.

1. Rickey Medlocke

Rickey Medlock (75), was born on February 17, 1950, in Jacksonville, Florida. He first had a stint with Lynyrd Skynyrd in the 1970s as a session musician before he was invited by Gary Rossington to rejoin the band as lead guitarist and primary songwriter in the 1990s.

He was a former member of the Southern rock band Blackfoot.

He became a member of Lynyrd Skynyrd in 2006 as a replacement for Hughie Thomasson who quit the band to join the Outlaws.

Keys fell in love with music at a tender age and began playing the piano before he was 5. At about the age of 11, he started making a living from music after joining his first band Smeagol, before going on to start a band known as Sound Advice. He was at Berklee College of Music in Boston, Massachusetts to study music but dropped out along the way to continue pursuing his career.

He previously worked with George Clinton in several P-Funs lineups before replacing Bill Powell in Lynyrd Skynyrd in 2009.
