The Arkansas State Police (ASP), ha come forward to explain what happened. The ASP explained that Laterrika Woods passed away after being ejected from a vehicle during the high-speed police chase in Arkansas.
The police also confirmed that the fatal incident occurred near the I-40 173-mile marker in Lonoke County when officers attempted to stop a vehicle for a traffic violation.
According to the Arkansas State Police, on the day of the incident, a trooper observed a Dodge Ram pickup truck committing a traffic violation and attempted to pull the vehicle over. However, the driver, identified as 30-year-old Torkilo Hambrick, refused to stop, leading officers on an 18-mile chase at speeds exceeding 120 mph.
During the pursuit, Hambrick reportedly drove recklessly, speeding past vehicles on the interstate’s right shoulder. In an effort to bring the chase to an end, a state trooper executed a Tactical Vehicle Intervention (PIT maneuver), and rammed into the truck, causing the vehicle to crash into a ditch beside the interstate.
The impact resulted in Laterrika Woods, who was in the truck, being ejected from the vehicle, and she was pronounced dead at the scene. Another passenger, a 26-year-old woman from Memphis, was also ejected and suffered critical injuries, requiring emergency airlift to Baptist Medical Center.
