When he was in his second year, Hanagami started to upload videos of himself on YouTube. During this period, YouTube was in its nascent stage and very few people were using the platform in the way that Hanagami was. YouTube was created in 2005 and it was the same year that the dancer was a sophomore and was also the same year he created his YouTube account.
From his videos, he started to garner a following, but fame was not all he got out of the videos he was putting up on YouTube. Kyle Hanagami was also getting teaching gigs from these. People can always tell when a person is good at their craft and for Hanagami, it was easy to see, and they wanted to learn from him. Although, he was still in college and planned to finish and get his degree the YouTube dancer found a way to balance school and dance.
In an interview with Billboard, he recounted that from the beginning of the week till Thursday he did all his school work but by Friday he was out teaching dance in different places and not just in the United States but in countries in Europe and Asia.
For a lot of people, dancing is something they would have started to do in their childhood but not for Hanagami. His dancing started in his first year in university when a roommate had introduced him to a dance group and that was it. Kyle realized that dancing was something that he was falling in love with especially when he realized that he could experiment with it and create something brilliant.
Dancing and Choreography
Kyle Hanagami’s career has grown since 2005 and has expanded to him dancing for celebrities and appearing in music videos. This does not mean he has abandoned making YouTube videos, he still does this. But unlike his early days when he appeared in most of the videos now, he just choreographs the dances and has other dancers appear in his YouTube videos.
He also still teaches and has an expansive network of dancers who have worked with him and who he still teaches, in all of this his YouTube channel has grown immensely in the more than ten years it has existed for.
