He has also struggled with alcoholism, a habit he developed while he was aging. He revealed he never drank while he was in his prime. His bad habit caused him an accident that almost ended his life and that of his family. John ended up with a broken neck and lost hope, waiting for death.

What Caused His Death?

The death of John Sattler, the professional athlete was announced on Monday, March 20, 2023, at the age of 80. Prior to his death, John battled with dementia since early 2020. This was revealed y his son, Scott.

While dementia is not a deadly disease on its own, it causes an impaired ability to recall, think, and make decisions. This in turn can interfere with everyday activities and dealings.

This came after the athlete suffered a stroke in 2018, which he survived. Scans at the time show a large blood clot on the right side of his brain which had to be operated upon to reduce the risk of further damage. He ended up having partial paralysis on the left side of his face but responded to treatment and snapped back. John also survived a car crash at 39, which almost left him paralyzed.

His family has asked for privacy even as they mourn their husband and father.
