Jesse Lafser is a country singer who brings her own individuality, insights, musical twists to traditional folk in her own songs. She has been commended for the kind of stories she tells in her songs and her unique vocals are said to be genuine and simple. Aside from music, she is also an amazing writer and is known for always wearing hats.

The country singer is currently married to famous Alabama Shakes singer Brittany Howard. The couple was both band members of the Bermuda Triangle at the time of their wedding in 2018.

1. Jesse Lafser was named after a painting

The country singer was born to her parents, Fredrick Lafser Jr. and Jeanne Lasfer on February 15 in 1987 in St Louis M.O.  Her parents named her after a Thomas Hart Benton painting of a woman playing guitar.

She was raised alongside her brother, Garen Lafser. Together with her family, the singer later moved to Nashville where she attended school while perfecting her writing and singing skills. There are speculations that the singer and her family moved about eight times during her youth.

2. She wrote her first song at the age of 15

The singer has received much credit for her songwriting skills. According to reports, she started writing short stories and poetry from a young age. By the time she clocked 15, she wrote her first song ever.

Jesse revealed writing is a discipline and a craft which has helped her create some of her best songs in the best way possible. Also, it is believed that she writes songs based on happenings around her, especially in her hometown.

Lafser is classically trained on guitar and piano and also on banjo and harmonica.

3. Her musical style has been inspired by a couple of musicians

The Missouri singer-songwriter revealed her musical style has been inspired by quite a number of musicians that have influenced her own style.

She mentioned the blues artists of the 1930s like Gillian Welch, Bob Dylan, Kris Kristofferson, and Woody Guthrie as her major idols.

Also, when she was a child, her parents used to play Roger Miller records for her. Her parents were fond of playing Big River: The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn at night to make her go to bed. Jesse grew up to become a big fan of Roger Miller.

Jeanne Lafser shared her experience after she suffered severe back injury pains on social media. Jesse’s mother revealed how she was given 17 pills daily for 8 months to relieve the excruciating pains she had in 2019.

However, the pills didn’t heal her and she was scheduled for surgery before she miraculously came in contact with a different doctor who then prescribed different medicines which started the healing process.

Jeanne shared her story on social media adding that it was God who healed her. Just like Jesse, Mrs. Lafser is a writer also. She has penned down her story in a book entitled, Hallelujah Anyway: A true Story.

Jeanne Lafser had previously worked as a director of public relations in various capacities. She has also worked as an editor and publisher of Missouri Magazine for so many years. She was also the patient care coordinator for a women’s medical clinic where she oversaw and taught parenting classes.

5. How did Jesse Lafser and Brittany Howard meet?

The couple first met in Nashville after some of their mutual friends arranged a blind date for them. Soon after the date, the two started playing together in the folk-rock band called Bermuda Triangle.

The lovers instantly fell in love with each other that Howard thought she was sick. Jesse’s partner went to the doctor after she met Jesse. She told the doctor her heart was beating really fast, her palms were sweaty and she was panicking. She revealed she thought she had diabetes but the doctor told her she was fine.

It was later confirmed to Howard she was love-struck. In 2018, the lovers decided to marry on a mountain next to a stream. The couple settled in Taos, New Mexico together with their three dogs and two cats.

6. The Nashville singer’s songs have been influenced by a few artists

As a singer-songwriter, Jesse Lafser has reportedly had an extensive collaboration in the past few years.  She has worked with the likes of Spencer, Cullum, Evan Hutchings, Mike Rinne, and Kristen Weber.

She has released a couple of albums and more than 30 singles. Her latest album is Telekinesis and which was released on May 7, 2021, and the album has 11 tracks. the other albums include: Raised On The Plains (2015), and Land In Sight (2012).

7. Her partner started singing at the age of three

At the tender age of three, Brittany Howard started singing and by the time she was 13, she was already playing the guitar. She began listening to rock music while in high school and got her inspiration to write songs from Dionne Warwick and Elvis Presley’s music.

Throughout her music career, Howard has formed three bands: Alabama Shakes, Thunderbitch, and Bermuda Triangle.

Together with Jesse and Becca Mancari, Howard made the debut live performance of Bermuda Triangle on July 12, 2017, at Nashville.

Jesse’s partner later announced her debut solo album, Jaime, in June 2019, and the album was received with universal acclaim. The album was named after her sister who died while she was still very young from eye cancer.

Brittany Howard’s music has been influenced by artists like Tina Turner, Led Zeppelin, Tom Waits, and Freddie Mercury.

8. Jesse’s wife struggled with her sexuality at first

In the beginning, Howard was not so confident to reveal her sexual identity because she was reportedly confused. the singer grew up in a society that did not fully accept the people who belonged to the LGBTQIA+ community and that made her scared.

By the time she was 25 years old, she accumulated all her courage and told her parents that she was a lesbian. She revealed her father didn’t care at all but his mother did not take it well at that time.

The 38 year-old singer has not revealed how much she has earned in her career so far even her partner, Brittany Howard has not specified hers as well. Despite that, she is speculated to have accumulated a net worth of between $1 million to $5million.
