Jane Fonda is a well-known American actress, activist, and model who has been married and divorced three times. Roger Vadim, Tom Hayden, and Ted Turner are her estranged husbands. With the exception of civil rights leader Tom Hayden, all of Jane Fonda’s ex-partners have achieved enormous success in the entertainment industry.
Meanwhile, Jane is known to be the mother of 3 kids including Mary Williams whom she adopted as a teenager. Her biological children are actors Vanessa Vadim and Troy Garity.
A Look at Jane Fonda’s Marriage History
Roger Vadim
As previously mentioned, Fonda has experienced three legal marriages. She began seeing French director Roger Vadim in December 1963, and on August 14, 1965, the pair got married at the Dunes Hotel in Las Vegas. On September 28, 1968, in Paris, the couple gave birth to a daughter they named Vanessa Vadim. Separation rumors started to circulate in March 1970, and by 1972, Fonda said she was no longer living with Roger. Their divorce was formalized on January 19, 1973.
Tom Hayden
Three days after getting a divorce from Vadim in Santo Domingo, Fonda married activist Tom Hayden in a spontaneous ceremony at her Laurel Canyon home on January 19, 1973. She had started dating Hayden the summer before and was three months pregnant at the time of their wedding. On July 7, 1973, in Los Angeles, their son Troy O’Donovan Garity was born.
In 1982, Fonda and Hayden unofficially adopted an African-American teenager, Mary Luana Williams (known as Lulu).
Sadly, Fonda and Hayden split up over the 1988 Christmas break, and they got divorced in Santa Monica on June 10, 1990.
Ted Turner
One year after her divorce from Hayden, Fonda married her third husband who happens to be the cable television tycoon, and CNN founder Ted Turner. The pair tied the knot on December 21, 1991, at a ranch near Capps, Florida, about 20 miles east of Tallahassee. However, Fonder and Ted got separated on the 4th of January 2000, and officially divorced on May 22, 2001, in Atlanta.
Apart from Her Ex-Husbands, Jane was Romantically Involved with Many Men
It would take a long time to list every man Jane Fonda has ever had a romantic relationship with. However, there are a few of them that are worthy of note. In her autobiography, the American actress states that she lost her virginity to James Franciscus when she was 18 years old. She has also said that between the early 1950s and early 1960s, she dated automobile racing manager Giovanni Volpi. Within the same period, she also admitted that she dated producers José Antonio Sainz de Vicuña and Sandy Whitelaw as well as actors Warren Beatty, Peter Mann, Christian Marquand, and William Wellman Jr.
In the early 1970s, Fonda had affairs with political organizer Fred Gardner and Klute co-star Donald Sutherland. Moving on, she is known to have had a seven months relationship with soccer player Lorenzo Caccialanza. She later dumped him and married Ted Turner in 1991. The actress, whose marriage to Turner ended in divorce, made the decision to go celibate for about seven years before giving love another opportunity in 2007 when she started dating Lynden Gillis.
After moving in and out of multiple relationships for several years, Jane decided she was not going to date anymore during an exclusive interview in 2018. She also said that she is already 80 years old and she has to ‘close up shop down here.’
