Kenshi Yonezu is a multitalented Japanese record producer and musician as well as an illustrator who started his career as Hachi under which he released Vocaloid music before he transitioned to releasing songs under his real name in 2012.

Having only started his career in 2009, he has come a long way in a very short period to have many singles, a number of albums, and awards to show for all his hard work. A very interesting individual who is also talented, there are many things that are known about him, and many more not known. Here are things you may want to know.

1. He came from a humble beginning

Kenshi Yonezu was born on March 10, 1991, in Tokushima, Japan into a very lowly family. He revealed that he was brought up in a family that was both physically and emotionally poor.

2. He had no relationship with his father

Kenshi did not have the best relationship with his father. According to him, he hardly talked to his father whom he said if he was to squeeze the times he spoke to him in 24 hours, it might be less than an hour.

Their relationship is so bad that he did not know where the work that his father did although he knew where. This, among other things, affected his social skills as he believed he was not a normal human being.

3. He began music when he was 15

At the age of 15, when he was still in junior high school. At the time, he joined his friend whose name is Hiroshi Nakajima to start the band, Late Rabbit Edda. While his friend was the guitarist the multitalented Kenshi was the vocalist, guitarist, and songwriter.

4. His Vocaloid career

As soon as he was through with his high school, he moved to Osaka to continue with his education at a high school where he studied fine arts, It was while he was there that he started using Vocaloid software to come up with songs that soon became popular sharing his music on Nico Nico Douga video-sharing site.

5. Kenshi Yonezu first album was independently produced

By 2012, he was already set to start proper music and he did that with the release of his first album which was done independently by a label he formed with some of his friends known as Balloom. In 2014, he made his label debut, giving his career a significant boost with the release of Yankee.

6. He has many awards to his name

One of the biggest in J-pop’s mainstream, the singer has already released 4 albums to his name and two Vocaloid albums. He has recorded Gold and multiple Platinum with his songs. He has won many awards including the Crunchyroll Anime Awards, Japan Record Awards, a Billboard Japan Music Award among many others.

Looking at all he has achieved, it is easy to agree that he has also amassed a significant fortune for himself, although there is nothing revealed about his net worth.

7. The singer doesn’t have a great memory

While his creativity is second to none, the Japanese singer does not have the best memory. He reveals that he finds it very easy to forget things so much that he could even forget what he had for dinner last night. Yonezu made the revelation after he was asked his most memorable moments of 2018.

8. Yonezu has sold over 3 million units making him the first under-31 to do that

Following the success of his hit song, Lemon, which as of April 2019 has recorded 2.49 million downloads and sold 530,000 CDs adding up to more than 3 million units. It is the first time that anyone under the age of 31 would record such a feat.

9. He was diagnosed with High-functioning autism

As revealed, Kenshi Yonezu has always believed that something could be wrong with him because he found it very hard to hold conversations with people, not knowing how to respond or what to say next.

Everything made sense to him in his early twenties when he was diagnosed with high-functioning autism, which is a form of autism without an intellectual disability but comes with difficulty in communication.

10. Kenshi Yonezu is a very tall man

The Japanese musician is a very tall man who stands at 6 feet 4 inches. While his weight is not known, he is a slim built man. To cap it all up, he is also good looking although he was not comfortable with his body or name for which he was teased while he was growing up.

There is no information in the public domain on whether he has a girlfriend or if he is dating anyone at the moment. What is known is that he is still not married.
