No One Has Died on Alone

The dangers contestants on the Alone show face are real. Thankfully, no one has lost their life while participating in the survival event. Sadly, Tracy, who participated in season 2, passed away in 2019 after a brief illness, three years after being on the show. While there are no reports of death, accidents have occurred to contestants. In season 3, Zachary Gault left the show after spending eight days because he injured his tendon. Shannon Bosdell in season 4 injured his spinal cord after a nasty fall.

Sponsors of Alone have standby professionals who jump in whenever things begin to get out of hand. There are paramedics, divers, and most likely members of law enforcement a phone call away. While safety measures are put in place, contestants still have to contend with forces of nature. They include:

1. Attack From Wild Animals

The chances of being attacked by wild animals are very high. That’s a risk when a person moves in the wilderness alone. One may be exposed to lions, jaguars, bears, snakes, bees, and whatever animal that is hungry or desperate to guard its territory. So far, no incidents of contestants being mauled by these dangerous creatures. Although there have been close encounters. In a twist of events, participants have been the ones attacking the wild animals. Because there is no home-cooked meal nearby, they resort to hunting and scavenging. In season 7, Roland Welker brought down a bull musk-ox which remains the largest animal killed on the show.

2. Dangers of Freezing to Death

Organizers of Alone drop contestants into cold and remote locations. They are expected to figure it out and stay alive. Rose Anna Moore of season 8 was evacuated by a medical team when she passed outside of her shelter. The temperature was 7 degrees Fahrenheit. Things would have gone south if she wasn’t found on time.

3. Food Starvation and Thirst

It is no longer news that contestants of Alone intentionally gain more weight before entering the survival show. Food is a luxury in the wilderness and they would do anything to give them an edge. The extra body fat works as an energy reservoir. During the competition, many participants tap out because there is no regular meal. Also, locating a good source of drinking water can be challenging.

4. Exposure to Sickness

Participants of the show leave the comfort of their homes and are dropped into the wild. They come in contact with bugs like ticks, mosquitoes, and fleas seeking blood. One may contract a deadly illness from this encounter. Contestants also risk getting infections from the untreated water they consume in the wild.

5. Risk of Injury

Contestants are in unfamiliar terrain and with one misstep, things can start to get ugly. Even in the comfort of homes, people stand the risk of getting injured how much more in the wilderness. The survivalists can get injured when climbing a tree, hunting, or starting a fire. In season 3, Zachary Gault because he injured his tendon, and Shannon Bosdell in season 4 injured his spinal cord after a fall.
