George Tickner, an American rock musician and original founding member of the San Francisco-based rock band Journey, died on July 5, 2023, at the age of 76. Journey’s lead guitarist Neal Schon announced his death on Facebook, thanking Tickner for his significant contributions to the band despite leaving after their debut album to attend Stanford University on a full scholarship and achieve a Ph.D.
Since his death was reported, condolences have been pouring in from all over the internet, with many people praying for his family and friends.

As of the time of writing, there has been no word from his family, friends, or former bandmates on how the rock musician died. Nonetheless, the American Center for Disease Control (CDC) reported that out of the 10 top causes of mortality in the United States, heart disease, cancer, and COVID-19 are leading.
At 76, Tickner’s death may and may not have been caused by any of the 10 major causes, including heart disease, cancer, chronic lower respiratory disease, stroke, and cerebrovascular diseases, and diabetes.

Tickner Hailed From Syracuse, New York
George Tyndall Tickner was born in Syracuse, New York on September 8, 1946. In 1973, he co-founded the rock band Journey with Neal Schon, Gregg Rolie, Prairie Prince, and Ross Valory in San Francisco.
Journey, the band’s debut album, was released in April 1975. As previously reported, he departed the band shortly after to attend Stanford University on a full scholarship to become a doctor. Despite leaving the band, he pursued music and kept in touch with his former bandmates.
He co-founded The Hiv recording studio with his former Journey bandmate Ross Valory. He continued to write and compose songs here. Also, he, Valory, and Stevie ‘Keys’ Roseman founded the band VTR, which released the album Cinema.
Tickner was also honored with a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame in January 2005.
