Craig Kilborn was very famous in the 1990s and early 2000s as a well-celebrated television host and anchor. Throughout his career of 10 years, Kilborn hosted a show on ESPN, Comedy Central, and CBS. However, he was away from his TV career in 2004 simply because he allegedly lacked interest in comedy.
The former late-night host decided to launch The Kilborn File after he walked away from his TV career. Sadly his show was not well received and was canceled after 6 episodes. He now runs his own podcast, The Life Gorgeous, from the comfort of his antique Los Angeles home.
Craig Kilborn’s Biography
Craig Kilborn was born Craig Lawrence Kilborn on August 24, 1962, in Kansas City, Missouri, USA. His father, Hiram Kilborn was an insurance executive while his mother Shirley Kilborn was a school teacher.
At the age of 4, Kilborn’s family moved to Hastings, Minnesota. While growing up, the Kansas City native’s height made him stand out on the basketball court. As he grew older, he became taller than his peers and by the time he was in the ninth grade, he got recruited by the Northside Magicians basketball team.
While still in high school, Craig excelled with the basketball team and he soon earned three letters and multiple all-conference and all-state honors. Following his graduation from high school, Craig accepted a scholarship to play for Montana State University. In the University, he again earned a dual bachelor’s degree in Media and Theatres.
Craig Kilborn Started His Career on Radio
Craig Kilborn started his career on radio as a play-by-play commentator for Savannah Spirits of the CBA. After working with the radio station for about a year, he joined KCBA in Salinas as a sports anchor.
Shortly afterward, he got his first television job. In no time, he got recruited by ESPN and became their SportsCenter anchor in 1993. Graig later created his own segment The Feel Good Edition until 1996 when he joined Comedy Central.
Following the premiere of The Daily Show on 21st July 1996, Kilborn was named as the host. He served as the host of the show from 1996 to 17th December 1998, hosting 386 episodes.
After that, CBS recruited him to become the new host of The Late Late Show. While he was there, he helped made the show popular with segments such as 5 Questions and Yambo. After his contract expired, he chose to step down as the host. It was that time that he went on a hiatus from television work until 2010 when he launched his own show, The Kilborn File. The show only lasted for six episodes before it was canceled.
His comeback did go so well that he decided to go into acting. He initially made his debut in the soap opera The Bold and the Beautiful(1999). He later appeared as himself in TV series and films like Pauly Shore Is Dead (2003), and Cursed (2005).
His most recent appearance is in the 2020 American sitcom, United We Fall as Dr. Sharpe.

Craig Kilborn’s Wife and Children
The former host of The Daily Show married his first wife, Amber Smith in 1998. Before they got married, the pair dated for quite a long time. During that period, they welcomed a son, Jonathan Kilborn in 1987.
In 2002, Craig and Amber separated. Following their divorce, rumors states flying that the former couple separated due to rumors of Craig being gay.
After the long controversy and rumors about his sexuality, sources began to speculate that he married his personal fitness trainer, Erin O’Brien who happens to be James Denton’s wife.
At the moment, it has not been confirmed if the two are truly married or not. Also, there is another report that claims he is living with his longtime girlfriend in Southern California.
What Happened to the TV Host?
Many have wondered why Craig Kilborn decided to walk away from his TV career. According to reports, he told the Los Angeles Times in 2010 that he did not leave for something else but he left just because he had to. He added that he had achieved his goals already.
Again, in 2019, he told the Philadelphia Inquirer that the main reason he left the show was that he had lost interest in the late-night comedy and that the business side of the show was flawed.
Almost fifteen after he retired, Craig came back to the spotlight through his popular videos on Instagram. He once mentioned that his nieces were the reason he became popular on social media.
Reports have it that Craig Kilborn hosts his podcast, The Life Gorgeous. He broadcasts it from his 1923 home in Los Angeles. He is often referred to as “Lord Kilby” on the show.
