4. Her Career was Affected by Leptospirosis

In her rise to the top, Carmen was once regarded as one of the most beautiful women in Mexico, yet, this changed when she got infected with leptospirosis, a blood infection caused by bacteria. The effects of leptospirosis lead to kidney damage, meningitis, and other types of inflammation of the membranes around the brain and spinal cord.

Regarding how she contracted such a bacteria, the actress alleged that she was poisoned by an ex-cook who poisoned her food with human feces.

Sadly for Carmen, the effects changed her appearance radically and this halted her career for some time.

5. She Went Through Surgeries to Correct the Effect of the Ailment

While many celebrities have used aesthetic surgeries to add to their beauty or get what they had always wished for, Carmen chose aesthetic procedures to correct the effects of leptospirosis. She stayed away from the limelight while undergoing different procedures which included a nose job.

She is known to have had more than 6 procedures and at some point, some doctors were afraid to perform any surgery on her due to the risk involved. One such was the doctors on the reality show, Botched. Notably, she was featured in an episode of the show led by surgeons, Dr. Paul Nassif and Dr. Terry Dubrow.

Away from the stress of surgeries to overcome the challenging ailment, Carmen was also involved in a ghastly accident that made her fall into cocaine addiction and prescription drugs. During this phase of life, the Mexican actress was in and out of hospitals and rehabilitation centers for a long time.

Apparently, the change in her appearance as mentioned earlier was also complicated by drug use. At some point, she almost lost her life when she overdosed and this led to an involuntary psychiatric admission. She alleged that she was physically abused while on admission.

7. Campuzano Has Been Married Twice

She has been married twice to two different men. Carmen got married to her first husband, Guillermo Rossell when she was 17 years old. However, the marriage was a stormy one right from the beginning. From what we gathered, the marriage was an illegal one, and shortly after, they parted ways.

After that marriage failed, she gave love another chance again when she married Mario Carballido. It is unclear how they met, but since he is an actor, we may not be wrong to assume it was through their work in the entertainment industry. While there was an expectation that this marriage would last longer, this was not to be as they soon parted ways.

Years later, the fashion model revealed leaving her children was one of her regrets. Moving forward, she and the twins reconciled after her recovery process ended 8 years later, and they now have a better relationship.
