One of the most influential rappers in the Detroit underground rap genre in the late 1990s to early 2000 was Blade Icewood. The American rapper was a local celebrity known in Detroit and environs.
He was a member of the Detroit-based rap group Street Lordz. And they even regarded him as the hottest rapper in the area from the Street Lordz family.
Just like rappers such as Eminem, Icewood rose to fame through performing in the underground Detroit rap scene. He made his music career debut as a local rapper with the Streetlordz group. Icewood later became involved with some gang rivalry which eventually led to his untimely demise.
Icewood’s Life And Tragic Death
The rapper was born Darnell Quincy Lindsay on March 14, 1977, and was raised on the east side of Detroit near a 7-mile road and evergreen. He attended Southfield high school when he moved to Southfield in his teenage years.
He made his music debut with Streetlordz on their album, ‘Platinum Roleez Don’t Tic Toc, and later performed with the group in the other subsequent recordings. The founding members of the group were Yacht, Jesse James, O Dolla, Brick, Baby L, Juan, TJ Da Thug, G Rock, Fat Mike, Lil Kuz, Rook, Cashout Calhoun, and K Doe.
The group later changed their name to Chedda Boyz which generated conflict between the groups with another rap group called Eastside Chedda Boyz. Icewood’s group even released their second album, a platinum masterpiece that even had a subtitle they boasted off.
Original Chedda Boyz’s album release worsens the conflict between the two groups. The other album the Street Lordz released was ‘Street Lordz: platinum masterpiece (2001).
In an interview concerning the origin of the name, Icewood explained in a slow, deliberate Midwest drawl in which he referred to himself as the original street Lordz Chedda boy. This was immediately after he released his solo album, ‘Stackmaster (2004) in which it featured the aforementioned interview.
His other solo releases were: Still Spinnin’ vol.1 (2003) and Blood, Sweat, and Tears (2005). The eastside Chedda Boyz later released a retaliatory diss song which they titled ‘Boss Up and Take the money’.
Until his death in April 2005, Icewood was a member of the aforementioned Street Lordz/Chedda Boyz.
