Art Dated Laurie Bird from 1974 until her suicide in 1979
After Art Garfunkel’s marriage with Linda failed, he began dating Laurie Bird in 1974. Unfortunately, Laurie died in 1979 after taking an overdose of Valium in the New York apartment she shared with Garfunkel.
Art was deeply affected by her demise. He once said in an interview that Laurie was beautiful, in a lonesome, haunted way, and he adored her. He also said that Laurie Bird died on him when he was coming home from Bad Timing.
It took the American singer half of the 80s to get over the suicide of his girlfriend. Moreover, getting over the experience took him a long time partly because it was suggested that his refusal to marry her was a contributory factor to her passing.
Garfunkel became reclusive after her death and today refers to it as the worst time of his life. He also said it was unfortunate that her mother died by suicide at 25 and so did she.
In the early Eighties, he became more reflective and produced several writings in honor of her memory.
Meanwhile, prior to her demise, Laurie was an American film actress and photographer. Her works include Two-Lane Blacktop (1971), Cockfighter (1974), and Annie Hall (1977).

Garfunkel Married Kim Garfunkel in 1988 and they have 2 Kids Together
Born in 1958 as Kathryn Cermak, Kim Garfunkel is currently 66 years old. She is a former model, singer, and actress who is known for her works in Longshot (2001), and Celebrity Page (2013).
Kim understood early in life that she wanted to be an entertainer; be it a singer, dancer, actress, or any combination of the three. She participated in plays while still in high school in order to build up her passion.
After high school, she moved to Ithaca College for a year before moving to New York City, at the age of 19, to attend a theatrical school on scholarship. While chasing her entertainment career dream, Kim adopted the stage name Kathryn Luce, which was her grandmother’s maiden name.
The intriguing tale of Kim and Art’s romance was enhanced by the revelation that their shared love of music was not what first drew them together.
She and Art actually met through a photographer for whom Kim was modeling in the mid-’80s. At the time, Kim’s relationship with a Subway guitarist was coming to an end, and out of curiosity, her photographer asked her what kind of men she liked and her response was “Musicians.”
It turned out, that Kim’s photographer had shot pictures of many rock-and-roll musicians including Procol Harum, Mick Jagger, Phil Collins, Paul Simon, and Art Garfunkel.
At the mention of Art Garfunkel, Kim exclaimed, Art Garfunkel! She also told the photographer that Art was the one person she wanted to meet her whole life because her parents played his music while she was growing up.
Her photographer sent her pictures to Art and 3 months later, Art called and asked her out. They began to date shortly after. However, this development was not so pleasing to Kim’s parents. According to Kim, her mother said dating a rock star would mean she has gone nuts. But this did not deter her as she was already deeply in love with the rock star.
She and Garfunkel eventually tied the knot on September 18, 1988. In an exclusive interview, Kim described her husband as a beautiful human being. She also said she cannot tell how much she loves him even though it can be challenging to be married to someone who has a very large life.
They did, however, manage to complement one another. In fact, she started harmonizing with him while he warmed up for shows, singing in a very casual manner. One day, he asked if she wanted to try backing vocals for his band and she obliged even though she confessed that it scared her at first.
With time, Kim was able to perform with her husband at some prestigious locations including Carnegie Hall, the London Palladium, and the White House Easter egg hunt in 1999.
For Kim, finding herself as the spouse of a celebrity meant being the subject of media portrayals. More so, the kids she had with Garfunkel are also not left out of the public eye.
