Anne-Marie Miéville was born on November 11, 1945, in Lausanne, Switzerland. She is considered one of the most important post-war filmmakers, who has worked across forms, media, and across countries.

The celebrated filmmaker began her career as a photographer, and during that period she collaborated with several people on different projects including Jean-Luc Godard.

Subsequently, she decided to delve into filmmaking and made her directing debut in 1976 with the TV series “Six fois deux/Sur et sous la communication” in 1983, she released her first short film, “How can I love” and later her second, “The Book of Mary” one year later.

As a screenwriter, she is famous for several movies, including “Numero deux” (1975), “Here and Elsewhere” (1976), “Every Man for Himself” (1980), “Ten Minutes Older: The Cello” (2002), and a host of others.

Anne-Marie has also served as an editor for several movies. In her career as a filmmaker, she has written and directed four short films and four feature-length movies. Her movies had the central message of sexual differences, partner relationships, family relations, and loneliness.

Jean-Luc Godard was an award-winning French-Swiss film director, screenwriter, and film critic. Born on December 3, 1930, Godard rose to prominence in the 1960s, when he became the pioneer of the French New Wave film movement.

He got married and divorced twice. First to Anna Karina and then, to Anne Wiazemsky, both of them starred in his movies. Some of his collaborations with them would later be called “arguably the most influential body of work in the history of cinema”.

Anne-Marie met him at the Cinémathèque Suisse, in 1970, in Paris She was working as a photographer working at a pro-Palestinian bookshop. The young photographer had a young daughter at the time, and she had to keep traveling back to Switzerland to visit her family.

Anne-Marie Miéville became a constant support to Godard after he was involved in a fatal motorbike accident in 1971, their relationship grew and became stronger during that period. Subsequently, they formed a strong and affectionate partnership that has continued for almost four decades.

Their relationship started as a professional relationship before it metamorphosed into a romantic relationship in 1978. Their relationship was referred to as “recluse”, as nobody seemed to understand the dynamics of it.  The couple has not gotten married legally, but they have lived together for the duration of their relationship.

She collaborated with Jean-Luc on different levels, as a photographer, scriptwriter, film editor, and co-director. Together they worked on different movies including “Ici et ailleurs” (Here and Elsewhere, 1975), “Numéro deux” (1975), “Comment ça va?” (1976), and the two television series, “Sur et sous la communication” (1976), and “France tour détour deux enfants” (1979).

Does Anne-Marie Miéville Have Any Children

There is no information as to whether the filmmaker ever got married or not. However, She has a daughter named Anne Michel, who she gave birth to when she was younger. There is no information about her or who her father is, but she had her before she met Jean-Luc.

Jean-Luc, on the other hand, has no children from his two marriages to Anna Karina (1961-1965) and Anne Wiazemsky (1967-1969).

Anne-Marie lost her partner of over 4 decades, Jean-Luc Godard on September 11, 2022, at the age of 91. It was said that he died peacefully, surrounded by his loved ones, at his home in the Swiss town of Rolle, on Lake Geneva. However, the cause of his death is not known.

He was mourned by the French President, Emmanuel Macron, who acknowledged him as “the most iconoclastic of the New Wave directors”.

Annie-Marie has been in a relationship with a French-Swiss filmmaker since 1978. Sadly her 91-year-old lover died on September 11, 2022, of an unknown cause in their home in Rolle, on Lake Geneva.
