Andrew Garfield, the famous English/American actor, has been in the news in recent times with rumors swirling all over the internet about him making an appearance in Spider-Man 4.
However, the actor has now come out to address the rumors and clarify misconceptions.
In a recent interview with GQ UK, Andrew Garfield revealed that the swirling rumors about his involvement in Marvel’s Spider-Man 4 are completely untrue, shattering the hearts of fans who were hoping to catch a glimpse of him in the action/sci-fi film.
However, despite his denial of the rumors, Garfield says he is fully aware that die-hard comic book fans are unlikely to believed him or take his word for it. This is because Garfield had previously denied a rumor that later came true.
Recall that Garfield famously spent much of 2021 insisting he wouldn’t reprise his role as the web-slinger in Spider-Man: No Way Home. Then, to fans’ delight, he appeared alongside Tom Holland and Tobey Maguire’s versions of Spider-Man, a surprise that helped catapult the film to a staggering $1.9 billion at the global box office.
Unsurprisingly, this has left fans skeptical of his denials ever since. And Garfield knows this! Speaking to GQ UK about the Spider-Man 4 rumors, he said: “I’m gonna disappoint you. Yeah, no. But I know no one’s gonna trust anything I say from now on.”
When he was asked about the possibility of returning as Spider-Man or joining another major Hollywood franchise, the Oscar nominee replied, “If it felt true to my soul and promised to be fun, I’d consider it. Who knows? Maybe one day I’ll have five kids, and I’ll need to start saving for their school tuition or something.”
Apart from the Spider-Man 4 rumors, others rumors have also surfaced online that Andrew Garfield might reunite with his Silence director, Martin Scorsese, to play Jesus in a new film. However, the actor dismissed the speculation, saying, “It’s not true to my knowledge.” While Garfield expressed his desire to work with Scorsese again, he acknowledged the director’s selective pace, quipping, “You can’t just keep waiting for Scorsese to call. He makes a movie every three years, and most of the time, Leo DiCaprio is in it.”
Recall that Andrew Garfield first donned the iconic Spider-Man suit in 2012’s The Amazing Spider-Man. However, his run as Peter Parker was unexpectedly cut short after the sequel, The Amazing Spider-Man 2 (2014), fell short of box office expectations. Speaking to Esquire last year, Garfield admitted he felt “left dangling” after his abrupt exit from the franchise. His return in Spider-Man: No Way Home felt like a heartfelt homecoming, allowing him to revisit the role and connect with fans once again.
